benchmade quality control?

The sharpness of the BMs I've handled recently varied a lot...from decently sharp to not very.

Over the last few months I've seen a lot of examples of what seems to be poor quality control.
Got a carbon fiber that had a white'ish coating over half of one slab. Cleaned off with a bit of rubbing with cloth and Break Free....but still this would have had to have been noticed if it had been given even a casual glance by QC.
Numerous other "little" things, but things that you would expect any decent QC to catch.
Theres a vid on Youtube from a guy who got a 580 that would spring open as soon as you took the safety off.
I've talked to a couple of dealers and they have had quite a few returns lately, again for things that should have been noticed by even casual inspection.

On the plus side, BMs customer service is normally very good to great and will fix the problems. But, when you start shipping stuff back and forth it kind of increases your real cost.

It's really a shame too, because I want to love their products, but it really kills your motivation to purchase when you feel like anything you get is going to come with a problem.

Personally, I prefer to receive a knife on the dull side. That means no more steel than was necessary was removed by the sharpener. I don't use knives until I've put an edge on them. I'm not interested in someone else's edge.
