Benchmade recommendations please!

Thoughts?

I mean I'd rather get the 710 - because of the slightly smaller size.

I have an 806 and a 710. The 710 is my EDC. The 806, while it has a better grip, is a little on the large size for an EDC for me. While the 710 is big enough to scare sheeple, the 806 would freak them out even more. :)

The BM770 is a nice, light weight gents knife. I have two, one with the BC coated blade. The BM 705 is, IMHO, more rugged. If I drop my 705 maybe 18 inches onto a black top parking lot, I don't think I'm likely to see any lasting marks. I know if I drop a carbon fiber 770 on a black top parking lot the carbon fiber scales will have a nick taken out of them. I wouldn't want to pry with a 770 but would feel a little better about prying with a 705.

Once I got a Mnandi I stopped carrying my 770. No, I wouldn't want to drop my Mnandi on a black top parking lot, but I like the angle of the blade to the handle and almost everything else about the Mnandi vs the 770, except the price. :)

I agree that the 710 is a better EDC than the 806.

Thanks for everyone's help... I hope to order a 710 M2 steel, black blade next week.

I was just wondering though... Heaven forbid, but: since some people may think flicking open an AXIS makes would mean it's illegal and I have to explain to the Police it's legal - what would you say? With my SOG Flash I, I'd say you start to push the thumb stud up and then it takes over (I have never tried to flick open my Flash fyi).

Then also I plan to get a Wave Emerson sometime soon hopefully. How would you explain that isn't illegal? This probably be easier then AXIS.

Thanks!

Once they start messing with you along those lines you're in trouble.
But holding the lock open and flicking it open is not usually construed as being a gravity knife.
Strive to be the type of person a police officer does not feel threatened by.
I seem to geek them out pretty badly lately, unable to hide my distrust of our cops who seem to have taken an us against them mentality.
Too bad, I used to enjoy talking to them.

If the officer is trying to cause you grief he may argue anything is a gravity knife.

I strongly recommend you hold the 806 and the 710 BEFORE you buy one. The grip is highly subjective and not a sure fit for everyone. I prefer the AFCKs grip and find the 710 a bit squarish.

For the larger knife, I would recommend the 710. You just can't beat a tried and true workhorse like this one. Strong handle, stout blade, and a great locking mech. For a smaller lighter knife, check out the mini Griptillian or the new mini Ambush (although it is a Rolling lock, not AXIS).

I only can say (as said before): go and get a try with the grip before you buy them.

I would highly recommend to test if you don´t find the 770 Axis Lock too small (its Axis button is a lot smaller than the others).

The 556 Mini Griptilian offers IMHO a bigger variety of grip positions than the 705.

Between the 710 and the 806, my personal preference would be the 710. But I would go along with what others have said about handling the knives, if possible, before you buy. The 806 is a fine knife, just feels weird in my hands (the handle is too long and skinny for my tastes).
