Ok my benchmade 610 rukus (black straight edge) came in the mail today. 2 Questions for you guys

1) where the grind starts right under the thumb stud does it start lower on the side that says s30v on it and right under the thumb stud on the butterfly side (a little higher)?

2) when i got the edge it's razor sharp. after inspecting the blade it looks like very very small chips in the blade but then after i put it into the light it looked like when they sharpened it the edge wasn't a clean edge . like they sharpened it but never cleaned it and some parts are clean while others still had that very fine strip of metal left (is it called a bur?). it looks so it looks like most of it isn't clean while some parts are. i hope that description is good enough to get the picture.

The one I had, (it’s up for sale), had a satin blade.

The grinds were even on both sides.

The edge on yours could indeed have a burr, or a wire edge. Go cut some stuff with it. It should go away.

Lots of companies are slacking on sharpening and if you have a knife with even main grinds consider yourself lucky. My BM 760 came with a burr that was so bad you could scrape with it.

Both my full size and my mine came with even grinds and razor sharp.
No complaints on my part.

But I know this stuff happens, I once had five kershaws that had really uneven grinds. Gave one of them away, sold two of them for el cheapo. Still have the two JYDs, although they will never on my time on this planet, leave the case they are currently stored in. Not even to go back to kershaw for a trade.

Got to have something to remind me that s--t happens.

the grind is only slightly lower on the one side. i did call knifeworks and had her look at another one of the knives and she said the other she looked at was like that also.

so the burs/wire edge is no big deal?

honestly i think i'm done buying knives off the internet. everytime i get one there is some issue with them. unless i see them in person i think i'm going to stay away from them.

Doesn't sound like any major issues to me. If there is a significant unevenness to the blade grinds contact BM, but from what I've seen on most production knives they tend to be off just a little and some worse than others. If you want consistent and perfect grinds you are going to have to go custom or CRK route. As for the sharpness go attack some cardboard and see if it works out, the Rukus comes with a fairly thin edge on it so it isn't uncommon to have to take care of a burr. If not you may have to do a quick sharpening touch up, I do that with just about all knives I get anyway.

yea i talked to both benchmade and knifeworks.. at knifeworks the other 2 knives she pulled had the same edge grinds and bur/wire edge on it so i'm not worried about it now. benchmade said the grinds are like that and the bur is fine once i cut something it will come off or send it in to them when i need and they will sharpen it fine. so no problems here.

as for the knife it's awesome. big handle. thick spine (thicker then my zt 0300) the handle is thinner then other knives but wider. very comfy. the thumb gripping is nice nice and grippy. came razor sharp nice cutting edge .axis lock is really nice. as for the clip mine seems very sturdy and clips up nice to my jeans. maybe they fixed the issue with the weak clips?

will this be my edc? prob not very often it's a big knife.. but if i know i'm going to need a more heavy duty knife i would def bring this

My new 610 Rukus isn't quite symmetrical at the very end by the thumb stud, but within a mm or so, it is fine. It is straight-edged, but only razor sharp over a small percentage of it's edge. Short bevel, too - both sides - seems normal compared to the Skirmish/mini pair I also have. They all three cut thin typing paper well.

My first Benchmade was a 550 Grip in 440C - bought new in a local store and so dull it would need heat to cut butter. That was nearly six years ago. My next BM was the 201 fb - Activator+ in D2 - really 'dull' and a mail order buy. My 610 Rukus came from that local B&M store - as did my 635BK mini-Skirmish - which came with a great edge. My 630 Skirmish came very sharp - via evil-bay. It really is hit or miss. I wonder what their warranty service is like re re-edging/sharpening a new knife?

I have bought Buck 110s as low as $22 on sale - $27 regular price at Wally World - and even $8 for those closed-out 'collector's tin' 110s. They have all been razors right out of the box/clamshell pack/tin. Same way with Kershaw. Case in point, my JYDIIs of Christmas. The 'Blemish' is perfect - and stll very sharp, as is the production unit. My earlier this week buy - evil-bay again - was a JYDII with Ti/SG2. It's the sharpest knife I own. Sad about BM and their variable nature. Nicely made, however!

Actually, I need to correct myself... The edge on my Mini Rukus on the side that has "S30V" on it comes up ever so slightly higher than the other side. I can live with it. BTW, my MR doesn't have the Blackwood logo either.

Mine has the US Patent # and S30V on one side - Benchmade logo on other. No pouch, either. It's blue box label stated '610 Blackwood RUKUS'. It has the foam, User Care Manual, poly bag, and AXIS flag. The clip and screws are temporarily, perhaps, folded up in that bag (The screws are way too long to fill the holes like the other side clip attachment screws do there for now.). The dull finish blade is okay, as I am not a fan of black coatings.

I may go over it a bit with my Spyderco Sharpmaker - which angle is appropriate? Thanks!

Gee, mine has the Blackwood gargoyle logo, perfect grinds and carbon fiber inserts.

I only paid $160 for the whole shebang.

Maybe I should keep it.

My Rukus was well under 15 per side from the factory, so try 15 per side first. If that doesn't hit the edge then switch to 20 per side.

None of my Spyderco's seem to have that problem. Very even <30 degree bevels. Scary sharp too.

My 520 came pretty sharp but the primary bevels looks a bit off. Relative to the thumbstud the logo side was about 1/8" higher then the reverse (steel marked) side.
