I am about to purchase a benchmade rukus from either Best knives in Ft. Meyers or The Blade Shop in knoxville Tenn. Both sell it for 169.95. These were the best prices i could find. I would appreciate any feedback about dealing with either of these stores anyone may have as well as any comments/critiques on the rukus.

Thanks in advance

aberg, benchmade is probably my overall favorite knife maker. they have stellar customer service and make exceptional blades. as for the rukus, it is an amazing knife. i would recommend checking out NGK they will beat those prices. Good luck

If those are brick and mortars that you're driving to, those are quite good prices, although, yes, I think you can find it for 15 bucks cheaper. However, checking it out in person before you buy is worth some, as well as no shipping charges and getting it the day you buy it. when possible, I buy in person.

The Rukus is a beautiful knife...it's also obnoxiously large. Wayyyy too big for me. If you are in a PCish area and enjoy being employed, this would not be a wise choice for EDC. If it were smaller, (significantly smaller), I'd definitely buy one. I think it's totally worth it.

I love two tone handles.

thanks guys. NGK did have it cheaper and since those other two are not in reasonable driving distance I'll probably go with them unless an even better price comes up. I don't live in a terribly PC area and since I'm a xxxl size guy the size is actually a plus for me.

reconseed and artfully martial or anyone else who has used an axis lock folder I never have so could you tell me is it a good strong locking system? I don't tend to trust liner locks a whole lot since my gerber AF bit me.

Arguably the strongest, and the only mechanism with redundancy built in(two springs work the lock, one on each side of the frame).

The axis lock is probably, on average, the most trusted lock ever produced. Not only is it superior in reliability and strength to most other locks, but it's actually easier to use. You can very easily flick open AND closed by holding down the lock. It's also safer to close since there are no fingers in the way. Finally, it's super smooth.

You can depend on the axis lock.

I really like Benchmades, especially the Axis system. The Rukus is pretty friggin huge. Here's a comparison photo:

I had the Rukus for a week as a passaround knife. While it is huge and heavy, it carries very well in the pocket with it's low ride clip. I find it works fine for me to carry every day, but if you are sensitive to carrying large, heavy folders look elsewhere. The blade sharpens up real easy and takes a great edge, and it cuts like a mother. The axis lock was very smooth and secure. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this knife.

I love my rukus, #657/1000
The steel stays sharp and comes back with a quick touch up and it rides low. Depending on what pants I am wearing, I may take it out of my pocket while sitting down (I carry in hip pocket). It's not a slacks knife, on slacks days I wear my BM5500 or kershaw chive. I use mine in the office all the time, but folks here know about knives and I. It isn't very PC.

It's beast of a blade, I trust it. I thought I lost it once, so I was prepared to shell out for another one. Right before I was walking out of the house to go to the knife store, I decided to flip the couch and found it clipped to the internal reclining mechanism.

I bought the 5500 auto after picking up a non-axis lock auto BM. The axis lock on the 610 impressed me so much I exchanged the non axis for the axis 5500.

BM has now issued new inlays as well for customization.

I'm another Rukus fan and have it in my pocket as I type. This is a good sized knife but I find it rides comfortably in my pocket and with the foldover clip, it is not very noticably, at least by the people I hang and work with. The Axis lock is as strong as they come and is very simple in function. My Rukus has a blade that has absolutely no wiggle in it. I've tinkered on mine some by satin finishing the edges of the liners and polishing the handles. Still handles well and I love the look of it. I noticed that knifecenter has the different handles that BM is offering for this knife and I'm about to go with the ivory micarta as it will look super with the satin liners and polished black G-10. It'll be like having a whole new knife for a fraction of the cost. Of course I may just order another Rukus and have both...........then it will definately be like a new knife!!

Anyway, bottom line, but the Rukus, I don't think you will regret it one bit.

0388/1000 Rukus, you'll love it. Kinda like having a modern day, tricked out Buck 110 in your pocket. This 610 can take it, and dish it out so know you're dollars will be well spent.

Pics of the modifications? Tips?
Now that you mention the blade wiggle, I had to tighten up my blade the other day with the BM Bluebox. First encounter with that. Is there something I should know?

woah Rukus is BIG boy !

I owned lot of benchmades but never managed to get my hands on Rukus , looks sweet hmm

Just picked up a Rukus SBK from NGK. Even bigger in person that I thought it would be. Came sharp -- was able to shave neck hairs with it.

Since I wear jeans when off-duty, pretty sure I can use it as an EDC.

We'll see how it goes for a week or so...

IMO, they are one of the strongest folding locking systems you will find on the market today.. the axis and the lockback of the spyderco chinook and manix are the only other locks that i trust more than the Axis... and they have the same lock... so pretty much Axis is one of the best... you aint going to break one.. dont worry. ya cant ever go wrong with a benchmade
