Hey guys,

I've come down to deciding between these two: A Skirmish, or a ZT300.

I know the Skirmish is being discontinued, so I'm leaning toward that one, and would pick up the ZT later.....but what are you guys recommendations about the Skirmish? I know its EFFING HUGE, and I'm fine with that. Also, if you have one, what's you take on it? Any problems with it, etc? How do you like it?

Thanks!:D

If you are after an elegant, well made knife, then the Skirmish is for you.

If you are after a 'workhorse' of a knife, then the ZT is your knife.

The ZT is a beast of a knife and IMO is a great working, outdoor knife, but if you want a gentlemen type folder like A.P.F said the skirmish.

Some users who have owned both made comments about the Skirmish feeling great in the pocket, yet in prolonged use, the thin handles really didn't feel too good.

I'd say ZT hands down, mine has taken everything I've thrown at it, and I've yet to find a fault with anything. Some say the ZT is too thick in the pocket, well I think it carries quite well, and in jeans, it is only somewhat noticeable when you sit down and lean forward. It does not feel uncomfortable, I can just notice it.

Gentleman folder?!?
The Skirmish makes my Military, Resistor, CQC-12, and Gravitator look and feel SMALL.
More of a workhorse than a gentleman's folder, in my opinion.
I'd get the Skirmish before the 0300 series(actually, I DID get the Skirmish first!).

Definitely the ZT! Way better and tougher in my opinion. The skirmish is not that tough of a knife. I think it was originally made to give the Sebenza a run for its money, but we can all see that did not work.

The ZT has a better warranty also, basically if you break it, they fix it. BM you have to jump through more hoops to get you expensive knife fixed. The ZT also has better handles and IMO, the S30V of ZT is way better. It must be in the heat treatment.

I had a skirmish and I also had the 301, and I would much sooner go back to the ZT than the BM. I still want the 301 back...

i would definetly go for the Skirmish, they just look sick. Both of them have the same blade steel i think. Just the action of benchmades' is what i like.

The 750 pinnacle was the sebenza's trade off,as for benchmades warranty they have the best.......oh yea how is the skirmish not that tough of a knife.

Benchmade does not have the best warranty, they charge $5 (yeah $5 so what but other companies don't make me pay it) to have them shipped back to you, they keep the boxes if you're not careful, they won't service auto's outside of Oregon unless you go through a great hassle, they charge you $20 for disassembly (that voids warranty... oh my ) and on top of that, they make you pay for new blades for "abuse." They're a great company with great products, but, they clearly do not have the best warranty. I have held many of their knives, but have yet to purchase one because of the above reasons (besides, their MAP is going up too, I've heard.)

I wouldn't call their warranty the best if simply disassembling your knife BREAKS the warranty.

It clearly states NO CHARGE for warranty work as for $5 bux you are thinking about sharpening a knife to enclose $5 bux,i have sent in 100's of benchmade with zero problems....

WHAT IS NOT COVERED

This Warranty does not cover normal wear, resharpening of the blade, damage caused by neglect, misuse or the failure to perform normal or necessary maintenance, disassembly of any knife by any person other than Benchmade’s Warranty department, or shipping costs for returned knives.

I'm not saying their warranty sucks. I'm just saying you can't say it's the BEST when they don't allow you to disassemble your knife.

The skirmish is not that tough of a knife.

How the heck does 0.160" thick blade and 0.122" thick titanium frame-lock NOT equal tough?
Seriously, unless you are stabbing TANKS(the type with treads, not gas tanks), it is MORE than tough enough to do the job.

Ok guys, I appreciate all the imput. Here's the status: Knife Works has 11 left instock as of noon today, Central Time. I know the Skirmish has been discontinued, so it won't be around long.....whereas the ZT300 shouldn't have gone anywhere by next month.....I will pick up a black bladed Skirmish, and then grab a ZT300 next month.

Now THAT is the right sort of thinking.:D

I have both and like the ZT 300 series better. Both are great knives, but I'm not too fond of the slick Skirmish opening hole and I like a little more grip to my knives. That said I'm still keeping both. :D

Sounds like you made the right choice by getting both.
