Benchmade Skirmish - disappointed :(

A few months ago I bought a Benchmade Skirmish fromh www.newgraham.com
I've put it to a very limited use so far, so it is still bearing its original sharpening.

However, just yesterday, after shutting it closed, I found out that the bladed was damaged from the hinge that keeps the two liners apart and in which the screw in the bottom part of the handle is inserted.
The part where the damage appeared is exactly against that detail; besides, there is a mark from the blade on the hinge.
I can't believe such thing might happen with a knife of a brand that ranks among the top knives' producers and has such a high reputation for quality and reliability!
So my question is: how could this happen to a widely advertised special edition knife that cost me almost USD 200?!

I am extremely disappointed

Return it?

Benchmade and New Graham are honorable people. Should be no problem with having this corrected.

I'm checking mine right now. Did it slammed shut or the blade pressed on hard while shut? Even so, that shouldn't happen!

Is it like this on every skirmish?

Is it a design problem or a manufacturing problem?

My blade is about an 1/8" away from the standoffs and I tried to press on my closed blade and it doesn't budge. Is there anything funny about the closed position blade stop pin where the pocket clip is attached to the scale on yours?

Regardless, BM will fix it or replace it I'm sure . . . Bummer.

Never seen that before ..... Like others said return it. Benchmade or NGK should treat you right.

I live in Europe, and I cannot send the knife back via courier, because that would be unduly expensive for me.

Start with NGK then. Then escalate to BM if they balked at paying both ways. I would. One of those two should handle it with no out of pocket expense, especially if this was one of the earlier flawed designs I've heard about.

I read on one of the forums..Benchmade forums.. maybe that some Skirmish knives had this problem and they fixed those knives. Bad luck for you in Europe for shipping. Always makes me mad when that happens to me from a major knife company with a good rep. This happens too much and I think these companies need to improve quality control.

I would be disappointed too! It's irritating when a seller sends out defective knives. At the very least, I hope you resolve it through the seller. If not, at least send the same photo you posted to Benchmade.

I just went and checked mine and it was fine. I really like this knife. It is pretty big but I like big.

I have had mine for near three years. Does not come close to the spacer.
I have heard this happened, but I thought it was the smaller model.

I have a Mini-Skirmish and mine does the same thing not as bad though but it is visible. You guys think Benchmade would replace a knife for such a thing. It has never really bothered me but I guess for what you pay for a knife like this it should not happen.

That realy stinks!
Call BM and tell them what is wrong. You can send it in to bm and they will take care of it.

Benchmade will sometimes refund the cost of shipping, I know I've heard of them doing that for warranty work in the U.S. You could at least call them and see what they are willing to do.
If there is a Benchmade dealer somewhere in your country, maybe something could be worked out through them?

No one's perfect, but this kind of thing really should have been caught by their QC people.
