My son got this as a gift from a friend , it's pretty darn slick.

Along with his Strider and his Burke , they are the pinnacles of his collection , not bad for an 8 year old.

The recurve looks quite subtle. Do you think it would be feasible to sharpen it flat to make it drop point? How long do you think that would take?

i luv my skirmish. its built rock-solid and is a really nice looking knife. and even though its a large knife, its thin so it carrys well.

John, That kindly looks like one of the 2008 Gold Class knives. I need friends like your boy has!!

I believe the blade was replaced after being purchased , but I can't remember who it was that did the blade. Fit , Finish and lockup are perfect.

Indeed , good friends are great to have.

Bonkers, that's a Benchmade Skirmish (the topic of this thread) with a damascus steel blade. The Skirmish was designed for Benchmade by Neil Blackwood. This year, Benchmade used damascus in some of their Gold Class models of the Skirmish although, according to John, that might not be one of them.

Here's a BM mini-Skirmish. The black "plug" in the blade doesn;t come with the knife. Sorry about the pics: the blade isn't clean and the lighting/color is off....

Hiya Stretch,

Many thanks for the heads up. I have just begun the search for 'the best folder' for my needs and wallet. ;)

I had not seen any Benchmade damascus blade folders ever before the photo in the thread. To say 'I want one...!" is an understatement. :D

Just wish they were available in the full size rather than just the mini Skirmish as my quick research indicates following your id of it for me seems to show? :(

They ARE available in full size. In fact, I don;t think they have a dmascus or Gold Class mini-SKirmish. You can check the usual suspects, New Graham, Knife Center, Knife Country, Grand Prairie, etc. Alot of dealers don't like to stock them because they're so expensive (Gold Class blades), but you can contact Benchmade and, if they don;t have any, they can put out feelers for you. They know which dealers have their Gold Class - actually, I've been told they control to some degree which dealers get them, based on sales I think.

Gold Class Benchmades will run upwards of $250 or $300, at least, and higher for damascus.

ON EDIT: I may be wrong about Gold Class mini-SKirms. I think I remember seeing one listed at New Graham or somebody a year or two ago.

Hmmmmm. Bonkers, now you have me thinking - There could be problems here!!! ((( :D )))

A couple of three months ago, I was in my favorite brick&mortar knife fondling store, and the lady had a Gold Class damascus blade. She swore it was the smoothest Skirmish she ever handled. I tried it - she was right! Now, after these last few posts, I'm trying to recall if that was a Skirmish or a mini!! I handled it, I ought to know, but now I'm beginning to doubt my memory. Maybe it WAS a mini......

My search of the Benchmade site showed only the 635-81 Mini-Skirmish was available with the Damascus blade.

The Model 630 Skirmish was the only full size offering.

Again, thanks for getting me on the right path. ;) :D

Hold up. Thats gotta be a typo. EIGHT YEARS OLD?!

yup . he is 8 , and enjoys the finer toys , he helps me in the shop , usually cleaning up , but I let him do somethings like drill holes , etc. Both him and his older brother ( 15 ) have a nice collection going , most of them aquired for honor roll rewards , when a kid pulls down straight A's for the whole year , ya gotta reward em right ?
What better way than with a new knife ? ( with a matching rifle )

I am pretty much set in my collection , I have my users , and a few light users , have a Menefree on order , so now it is time to spoil the kids.

Adopt me?
Please?
:p

So, my Sebenza for Xmas idea didnt exactly work out. I didnt get the Edgepro I asked for either...but it was an excellent Xmas just the same...

So, I got some cash...but not enough for a Sebenza. I really want a Ti framelock. I do not like the JYD from Kershaw....

Does anyone have a Benchmade Skirmish? I am really liking the looks of it, but I hate tip down carry. Opinions on them?

I guess I could consider a ZT0300 as well...how would they stack up to one another?

Thanks!

If you are considering ZT0300's then I believe it's safe to assume your limit is right around $200.00 right? Have you tried looking at a Kershaw Tyrade? Great looking knife with titanium handles. Also in the dealer for sale area, kershawguy has Ti speed bumps for sale at a really good price  I've handled one once and it has a nice feel.

As for the skirmish, the large is LARGE!!! The mini-skirmish is more of the size of a sebenza, but for me it didn't quite fill the niche like I had hoped it would. So eventually I sold it and saved for my sebenza 21. If the sebenza is what you want, then that's the only thing that will satisfy that urge to buy something :D

The closest blade type that I've found that could actually put my sebenza back in it's box (for a limited time of course :o) is my Doug Ritter Grip  Same blade steel, same finish, and almost the exact same size. The ritter grips handle actually fills in my palm better than my sebbie.

What may get you is that by the time you buy/order your $200.00 knife, you probably could have tossed out an extra $50-$100 and gotten yourself that sebenza in the for sale area here. That's how I got mine. I was selling off my other knives just to get a sebenza, and at the same time I found my knife for right above $300, a great deal and worth every penny. Keep looking, save your money, and sell off a knife or two and get the knife that you want 'cause if you just get a temporary fix, that's all it will be until you get the one you really want.
