Hello everyone,

So I was on knifecenter.com and recently discovered the Benchmade Skirmish. I had always seen the picture of it on the front page, but just assumed it was out of my price range. Yesterday I finally decided to look into it. I searched for a long time (not knowing what it was, other htan a BM) and never actually found it. I did some googling, and I beleive that I did actually find it there. Although, I never actually found it on knifecenter because when I search Benchmade Skirmish it has over 500, maybe 800 results.

I currently have (out of my folders, in the order I acquired them) a Kershaw Leek by Ken Onion, a S&W SWAT Spec Ops, A CRKT Anubis, and an Emerson A-100. I really love the design of the Skirmish, and I was wondering if someone, posibly an owner of one, could tell me more about them. All I know is that they range around $180.

I was going to get either a Spyderco Kuhkuri (which apparently are now discontinued), a Spydcerco Caspian Salt, or a Kershaw ZT200. But now I don't know if I should just get this!

Just lemme know how you like it, the reliability, if it's worth the price, etc.

Thanks!

I had one and traded it. I really liked it and now regret that decision.
It is a large knife, but I found it very comfortable.

The large number of search hits is due to having benchmade in there. Do as search of just skirmish on that site.

Have fun on the pursuit of knife happiness.

Check all the internet knife shops: GPknives, New Graham, Knife Center, Knife Country, etc etc. Someone is bound to have some still for sale.

I have a mini-Squeemish. Very nice and it is my daily carry. Inside the waistband to the right of my belt buckle. Tip down.....as it should be.

If you find one in stock somewhere I recommend you get it. THey are well-built and very nice knives, if a bit big. I don't like that the opening hole is so strongly chamfered, but nothing's perfect.

Chances are you can get your money back out of one if you don't like it. I have a NIB mini and full size in my safe that I got for a killer deal at a gun show.

I have 2 skirmishs the 630 and 630BK. The 630BK is my EDC, and imho is one of best production knives ever produced. It has almost a 1 to 1 handle to blade ratio and the blade super fat 16MM. It is perfectly balanced at the pivot point and the S30V gets very sharp and stays that way for a long time. It is hard to use the opening hole in a traditional way, but if you just use the hole to break the detent and the flick it, it slams open with an extremely gratifying "TWACK!!!". I've used it to chop up hundreds of boxes a ton of rope and even a small tree with absolutely not effect on the knife except some scuffs on black coating. If you like big knives this one is top of the heap. Everyone talks about how awesome Sebenzas are, well this is like a giant curvy Sebenza.

I really hope the OP finds one. I can't offer one of mine because I couldn't EDC my favorite knife without a back-up at home.

The ZT200 is similar in size and shape, but the handle is a lot thicker which I chose a 2nd 630. I recommend the ZT200 if you couldn't find a skirmish.

You can find them if you look on the exchange or Ebay. Prices vary but I would say 180ish for a large and 150ish for the small are fair prices these days. I have one of both and personally like the smaller one better. The big one is, well, big. But I still plan on keeping it and since it was used will probably use it as soon as I find the need for a big folder.

I plan on waving the small one and switching the clip to tip up. Maybe I will break it out and mill a slot for the clip tomorrow. I don't have the right size drill bit to tap it otherwise I would have already done it.

630 Skirmish is the best folder I've ever had. Very well balanced, big-but comfortable, I'm EDCing it on my right jeans pocket with no problem.
I like big folders.

I edc my Skirmish every day. Mine has a Tom Krein regrind and is absolutely fantastic. It is a shame that BM stopped production.
Good hunting......:)

I have one of each. Build quality - fit and finish - is very high and the materials are premium. It's a unique and very appealing Blackwood design. The 630 is indeed more than a pocketful. The 635 is very manageable. Both are well worth the asking price.

I would have kept my Mini, but The hole was too small, and it was very hard to open the knife comfortably.

I loves me some Skirmish!

I EDC mine a LOT of the time. Right now, I'm breaking in a new Kershaw Tyrade, but, prior to that, the Skirmish finds it's way into my RF pocket all too often.
It is an awesome knife in many respects. The blade takes a hair popping edge and holds it really well. The handle is big though and if you have small hands, you really need to handle one before buying it. The knife is a handful.

I like HotSwat's comments comparing the Skirmish to the Sebenza.
I believe it is applicable.
The Skirmish, to me, is a big, curved blade Sebenza. It's looks are great, it's action is smooth and positive, the grip is great (for me) and the blade is a supreme cutter.

Like I said, I loves me some Skirmish!:D

Definitely good advice, I just got a chance to handle one at a local gun shop and was really surprised with just how big it is. After handling it, I decided it wasn't for me, too bad though, it is a beautiful knife.

I have medium-sized hands and the large Skirmish feels perfect. And it carries much smaller than it actually is, if that makes any sense. You look at it opened and think "My thunder, what a whopper!" yet, for its size, it feels manageable in the pocket.
