Benchmade, Spyderco, and ?

Al Mar does make some great stuff. I have a couple Spydercos, a couple ZTs, and juuuust got done handling a few Sebenzas. My Al Mar Payara's action is smoother than all of them. Fit & finish have been outstanding in all of the samples I've handled.

I have a lot of Spyderco and some ZT. ZT is generally overbuilt for my casual use, but they are great folders. A.G. Russell also has nice folders in their Acies line, although they not cheap. I have several Benchmades, and like the 710 as much as any. There are many fine choices without having to go with customs.

If you don't want overbuilt, the 0770cf gives you Elmax steel, a great slicing grind, and a very light package.
Could you ever imagine yourself saying that about a ZT folder? I know I couldn't. But at 3.0 ounces (85 grams), the 0770CF makes anyone who has ever handled a ZT knife rethink the concept of "overbuilt". It's the underbuilt folder for the overbuilt crowd. :D

So true. I just spent a bit of time fondling at Northwoods Knives' shop. 0801, 0770cf, Sebenzas, Benchmade 755, and a bunch of other stuff. The 0770cf looks crazy on the shelf next to the rest of the ZT line up, but it is amazing in hand. It really is the elegant slicer to pair with any of the brutes in the ZT roster.

Glad to see al mar thrown in there. Love my eagle HD. Don't have a mcusta yet, but interested to see what they're all about too.

The Eagle and other slim designs are great. I also love the Kirk Rexroat designs like the Payara, Shrike, and Nomad.

I'm also mainly a Benchmade and Spyderco fan but ZT seems to be coming out with more pocket friendly knives which have peeked my interest. Maybe they got the hint we don't always need to carry a tank in our pocket.
