Benchmade/Spyderco merger?

So the dude at the knife counter of my local surplus store today was giving me a big story of an upcoming Benchmade/Spyderco merger. So he says that Benchmade is buying Spyderco, because Spyderco can't/won't last much longer, small company that they are with their knife prices going up rapidly (so he says). Plus, he says Benchmade being allowed to use Spyderco's opening hole is the start of this.

What's up with that? Woulda thought if this was real it would be big news here and on other knife sites, but no, nary a sound (as far as I can tell).

Methinks he was just blowing smoke about what he don't know nothing about. Or is it for real? I figure those here would know all the big up-and-coming news regarding two popular knife manufacturers like Benchmade and Spyderco.

Man, whoever his supplier is, PM me his contact details! Oh, I'm not talking about knives here...;)

I havn't heard anything and I personally won't believe it. Spyderco is no small company either, they have been around for a while now, just look at their popularity here on BF, they are making their fair share of the green. Until you here it out of Mr. Glesser's mouth, I wouldn't worry about a merge.

His name is Bubba.
What about his shipping rates? I think I could go into business, if the guy is dispensing stuff that good...
Seriously, if at crack prices it produces hallucinations better than LSD... that's a winning combo, better than spyderholes with axis locks!

The price of milk is on the rise here, I guess that means cows won't last much longer either. I hate rumors, especially farfetched ones.

It's Benchmade and Ben & Jerry's that are merging. Duh.

The new company will be called Bench & Jerry's.

Very creative, and...thank you for a great laugh!

It's called industry FUD, usually a company on the loosing side of business makes up incredible stuff in order try and shift customer back to them.

Is Benchmade loosing money? While they don't get my shiny pennies these days, someone is buying from them. You don't put out knives designed by Mel Pardue, Warren Osborne, Neil Blackwood, and Mike Snody and have them sit around unsold.

I think Spyderco is doing okay.

I've heard some ridiculous BS come out of dudes that work at surplus stores, but this takes the cake!

More plausible stories would include:

Angelina Jolie dumps Brad Pitt for Wilford Brimley. Says it was the right thing to do and the right way to do it
