Benchmade/Spyderco merger?

Spyderco and Benchmade are both fine companies. Unless Sal Glesser was looking to retire with everyone else following suit, I don't know why Spyderco would sell out to Benchmade.

Don't believe everything you hear. Especially from a counter clerk trying to sell something. It's funny what people will come up with sometimes. He probably just noticed the spyderhole appearing on some Benchmades and his imagination ran away with it. That particular licensing issue has been discussed and has nothing to do with any merger.

I'm not going to say that it could never happen, but I think that what you heard was based on pure imagination.

Figured as much. Odd it was, I was looking at Spydercos, (trying to decide between a Byrd Crow and Delica), and the guy kept pushing Benchmades, especially the Mini Pika. Go figure.

If Sal was going to retire, I'm fairly certain Eric Glesser would take over. Makes sense don't it? And Eric has got some great designs, so when it eventually does happen, I don't think much will change with Spyderco. Will still be the same small company, making quality products at reasonable prices.

No direct response from Sal so, IT MUST BE TRUE! Buckderco? Spyderuck?
I'm not liking those options. I hear Home Depot is getting in on the deal and all future knives will have wooden blades.

You people have it all wrong.... Strider is being bought out by Taylor(Schrade)...

More plausible stories would include:

Angelina Jolie dumps Brad Pitt for Wilford Brimley. Says it was the right thing to do and the right way to do it

All Bibles in 2009 will replace "Lord" with "ceiling cat" and "Lucifer" with "basement cat"

Wal-Mart to carry full line of Microtech autos and sell Tachyon bali with new BG-42 blade for $48.98

SO it IS true. Oh no...

I heard the same thing through the grapevine. Benchmade wanted to buy out Spyderco (because they're doing so horribly), but they wanted to go hostile on Yahoo! first.

If anything, Spyderco would buy out Benchmade. Look at that, I typed Benchmade and it has a red line under it. Spyderco doesn't. Wow, even Bladeforums has never heard of Benchmade! Hilarious!

Spyderco trolling over. I wonder if I caught any fish?

The "dude at the counter" stories are similar no matter where you look: knives, cameras, pens, navajo blankets or whatever. Often the counter guy wants to give the impression that he's got a lot more pull than a guy behind a counter would normally have, so he has inside information.

He'll tell you that Leica lenses are made by Zeiss, Nikon bodies are made by Fujitsu, and Italian pasta is made in Algeria; he hopes you'll believe that he's special, and it doesn't honestly matter what the message he's giving you is. Next week he might come out with a rumor that Spyderco is buying Volkswagen.

Wow, I'm not to sure bout that little number... I don't think there will be any merge in the near future.

But could you imagine your favorite spydies with BM technology? A manix, military, or waved delica/endura with an axis lock would be amazing.

Or howabout some Benchmades such as the pika, griptillian, or dejavu using the spyderhole? oh wait, nevermind.

I heard that Dark Ops was buying Spyderco. They're going to put a blood groove and some titanium spikes on the Dragonfly and re-market it as the "Dragon Slayer - Perfect for all of your covert pyro-halitotic reptile deanimation needs."

The Delica is remaining unchanged by re-labelled the "Hardcorica".

Given Sal's history he would probably rather let the brand die than sell out. It's his baby.

And if the Bali-Yo takes off they could just move into the office supplies market.
(imagine a Spyderco paper cutting/hole punching/stapling machine, that fits in your pocket!)
