Benchmade switching liners from Ti to Steel?

Titanium will not rust like stainless steel. The weight difference of titanium and steel is only 40%.

A properly made titanium liner lock will not move to the opposite side for years, probably decades. If the steel is not heat treated it will wear long before titanium. Do you want proof? Ask Kit Carson home many titanium liners he replaced because the lock was worn out. Kit has made a few liner locks. ;)

This is interesting. Could you either explain further or point me to where I could find some more information about this?

You would not believe the things people bring into my store.

I would choose Ti over the steel for the long run. I guess the old BMs will out last the new ones. I think economics is the main reason for the switch.

Yep, I was actually a bit surprised when after the previous faux pas with the car door I disassembled the 710 for repair, there was indeed corrosion underneath the scales, nothing large, but the knife wasn't all that old and was well taken care of, I'd guess if left unnattended for a few years you may see significant rusting under the scales if the knife gets wet (sweat, saltwater, etc) often.

Is the entire BM line switching over to steel liners or just some of the models?
