Chinese knives, toys, pet food, tooth paste, frozed fish, etc. is all junk. everything we import from China is spent on their Military machine. I belive in capitalism, not corporate greed. Bring the jobs home.

I wish I could get by in this world with NOTHING made in China, but it seems I can't escape it. Nearly every piece of electronics I pick up is made there. In a few years, all knives may be coming from China.

I don't believe the Chinese view the U.S. and its citizens as allies or friends, and their products sometimes reflect their malace or disregard. One manufacturer who knowingly was making carcinogenic products for export to the U.S. was asked why he did it. He shrugged and replied, "Americans have a good healthcare system." I can't avoid their electronics, but I won't eat anything exported from China.

I'm old enough to remember the stigma that a "Made in Japan" label had. It was as if the label said, instead, "Junk." Fortunately, we had just defeated the Japanese a few years earlier. We may have to face China a few years from now.

i don't see why they have to see the americans as allies or friends.
generally, the big attitude of the american goverment is like a bully in the class making friends :jerkit:

Both are great knives, as far as duability and funtionality go, I like my spyderco the best. if you use a knife gets alot of wear and tear the Spydie is the best choise. Having said that, I must say, as a collector my benchmade knives are much sexier knives. I dont user a knife that much but always carry one so its there when I need it. I sit behind a desk for living and my two benchmade knifes are the Mini-Onslaught (BM 746) and the Barrage (BM 581) and my Sypdie is a PM2. My PM 2 is up to any task but as a collector looks are important to me and in my opinon the Spydies all look about the same, no doubt I will probably buy a few more, I love the look of my Benchmades, if was going to to choose I knife to beat I with every day tasks like cuting wire, I would choose my spyderco PM2. if I am goin to skin a buck I'm grabbing my Onslaught. I love em both but prefer the Benchmade as they are much more attractive knives (a work of art). and I love the Sypdies for their practicality and durability. Cold Steel is not even in the same league as these two.

Get one of new triad lock folders from Cold Steel, theyre excellent for the money and the grinds on them are much better for cutting than any Benchmade I own!!!

I've had only good luck with Benchmade's 154cm. I don't like many of their knife designs, but as for how well they heat treat their stuff its top notch. A co worker recently had me sharpen one of their stryker in 154cm - it had been used daily for two years with no maintenance and while being pretty beat up it still had a useable edge and the serrations were brought back with very little effort. I'm not talking about light duty either, the black coating had been completely worn off the first 1/4" or so of the blade from top to bottom.

You get what you pay for generally, but IMHO the price on CS's Voyager line and other "normal" folders is exceptional. Aus8 isn't the best for wear resistance, but it takes everything from a coarse to a shaving edge very well. Lack of retention is balanced by how easy it is to sharpen. I prefer carbon steel, but BMs 154cm is right up there with VG10 from what I can tell. That said, BMs serrations can be rather acute compared to other types - they cut very smoothly for a serrated edge but might not handle brute tasks as well as the beefier designs. I don't think that has anything to do with the steel.

Old thread is old. But between BM 154CM and Spyderco VG10, I've had better results with Spyderco. The way Spyderco's come sharp as hell from the factory is great! I might have got a dud, but my Mini-Grip had too many faults. There were a bunch of tool marks, one big scratch on the side of the blade, the 'Spydiehole' was unfinished on the inside which made it uncomfortable, and the grind on the edge was very wide and wasn't very sharp. Was either reprofile and deal with the issues or return it. Best thing I have done in a while was return it and get a PM2, love it! Perfect blade IMO. Most BM's I have seen didn't have most of those issues though so it's not necessarily the best indication of QC.

Benchmade & spyderco, both did copy the knife marketing of Cold Steel "made China" just for the record:rolleyes:

Hehe, I wouldn't think too much into that comment, that person hasn't even been active for 3 years ;)

and the thread is over 5 years old, from 2007 :D

Yes, people need to look at post dates before making comments.
