Benchmade VS. Spyderco

Not to promote thread drift, but Lynn does not entirely run his business in a pro-customer, pro-knife community manner(putting this mildly), so he deserves whatever written beatdown Cold Steel gets on the Forums.

Yeah. I agree. CS may not have been the best example I could throw out there. Just the first to come to mind. ;)

All that leading to the conclusion that they are equal sharers in the throne of "the best production knife company on the planet". Keep in mind this is all my opinion based off of my experiences with both companies.

mmmotorcycle

WRONG WRONG WRONG........There can be only ONE!;)

I like both. I've owned a variety of each company's knives, from the 710 and the Grip/Minigrip to the Manix and the Native. I like some of the aesthetics on BMs better, but not all Spydies are fugly, and I like the Spyderhole more than BM's thumb studs.

Both companies make excellent products and you can't go wrong with either company. Both offer excellent customer service and stand behind their products. I think overall Spyderco has better blades when it comes to cutting performance, and Benchmade has an edge with their AXIS lock. Wouldn't it be cool of Benchmade and Spyderco joined together to produce a line of knives with G-10 handles, full dual steel liners, AXIS lock, and Spyderco blades? Imagine an AXIS lock Military, Manix, Caly, etc.

It would have to have thumbstuds though.. ;)

They could put them in the centre of the SpydieHole :o ...

An mili in axis w/o the hole or with the hole? the hole wouldnt be necessary with the axis lock or at least as pronounced a hole. That idea sounds cool. I would be up for one of those. I think an Axis manix would be the most awesome though.

Are you aware that Benchmade DOES host its' own forum?.
http://benchmadeforum.com/groupee/forums
Yeah, but my point is it's a bit less interactive with a company representative. Spyderco also has their own forum on their site, and you get company reps there frequently.

Point is taken about having to deal with customer flak (and Sal is golden there), however both Kershaw and Spyderco have visibly benefited by having a visible presence here.

At the same time, I can also see being annoyed with everyone's "Hey Spyderco, why don't you make a ___" or "Hey Kershaw, make ____" or "Benchmade, bring back M2". Sure, great ideas can be found in those threads; but a lot of the time :jerkit: IMO

Having owned 1 Spyderco and currently owning 1 Benchmade I'd go with Benchmade, I have no neomystical reason for this, I just liked the way Benchmades knives look and feel compared to not liking spyderco's so much.

What does this mean? not a damn thing. they both are great knives from all reports ive read.

As it has been said, both very good companies with very good products, but my vote has to go with Benchmade. Just love the Grips, the Axis lock, the fit and finish, etc. My opinion. I have owned numerous models of both companies.

It would be kind of cool to keep the hole so you have Spyderco's trademark, and then with the AXIS lock you have one of Benchmade's trademarks. I don't really use my thumbstuds since I flip the blade open and closed and with a Spydie hole you could do a Spydie drop. An AXIS Manix would be cool too. I have a Manix coming for Christmas. I never picked one up before because I felt it would be to big, but I'm just going to get it anyway. :) I figure I can take it out when I go hiking, walking, etc. I remember holding one in a knife shop and thinking it fit my hand so well. I can't wait for Christmas.

BTW, this Christmas I'm getting 4 Spydercos and 0 Benchmades. However a mini Rukus is probably next on my list.
