I recently bought a discontinued Benchmade model 40TR balisong. It was bought second hand from the orginal owner. I got it for a good price, but it is in pretty bad condition. The two pivot screws are missing (pressfit pins are still in though), the tang pin it loose, and the spring latch is not too effective anymore. I was reading the Benchmade Warranty form and apparently, the knife is only covered for the orginal owner. Is there any exception to the rule? I really want to get this knife fixed up.

You need to ask Benchmade this question, and they don't hang out here. Try contacting their warranty and repair department.

I've had two repaired, they never asked. It was awhile back though.

For me there warranty service is very good. Sent them in a 750 pinnacle that had some blade play and lockup was 100%. Came back a around 80% and tight. I remember filling out a work order but no where was I asked for a receipt or if I was the original buyer. Cost me postage but was sent back on their dime, turn around time was three weeks. In my book they take care of their product quickly and right.
