Benchmade Water Series Adira (Full Size) Review:

Well I have been carrying my Adira daily for about seven months now, using it for everything from opening letters to chopping vines. I do a lot of hiking and used to always carry a fixed blade for trail maintenance, etc. With the Adira I really don't need the fixed blade - it does it all. I usually touch up my knives occasionally with a ceramic rod, but with my Adira being my first Magnacut blade I have let it go just to see how long it will hold an edge. So far, after some pretty tough use it is still paper cutting sharp! I am impressed with this knife!

Has anyone done an edge retention test on this Benchmade magnacut? Can't seem to fine any reference online.

Quiet Quiet You have any rust on this yet? Noticing quite a bit on the acid washed Magnacut used on the 940 and Bailout.

I've gotten very small rust spots on CRK MC so don't expect it to be kc200n/h1/Vanax level, but it's nowhere as bad as the acid washed BM MC. Wondering if the Adira finish rusts less (like CRK's), the difference being more finish than heat treat, or if it's down to the heat treat.

This is a couple weeks carry since last polishing it off (it does Flitz off easy)

I have used my Adira several times in nearwater conditions, and have used it for food prep, washed it down, shook it dry, and put it back on the pocket and I've not seen any rust on mine as yet.

As for your 940, I almost wonder if they are treating the surface with something on that finish and that's what's rusting because MagnaCut shouldn't be rusting without some serious conditions being present. I don't know, something fishy going on there!

I've gotten some on Inkosis and a custom 940 reblade, so I don't find MC the ultimate in corrosion resistance (none on Spyderco Salts though, and those get carried most of all). The custom is also acid washed and rusts quite a bit, while the CRKs are a lot nicer, shinier. The Spyderco Salts too have a nice shiny satin even under the dlc.

I think the finish matters quite a bit, but BM is the only company I know of with both acid washed and a nicer, shinier one, so it provides another perspective to see. Going forward if you get any if be curious to hear and see it

Very small rust on a CRK for comparison (probably need to zoom):

Another with acid washed Magnacut (this is after polishing it off mostly)

That is pretty wild. I carry almost all MC knives these days and even in humid Florida, I've not seen anything like this on mine. That surface treatment has to be a possible cause for that surface corrosion, because MC is sold as being almost fully stainless and in my experience, that's tracking, so I don't know what else it could be!
