Hello BF!

I'm trying to make my first purchase in the knife world. I wanted your help in making an educated decision.

Right now Im looking at the:

BM Barrage BM585-2
ZT 0770CF

Open to recommendations also.

I'll be using it as and EDC.
It will mostly will be used to Cut boxes and eat steak.:D
I work In the city and I carve wood for a living :).

I'm not all about the assisted system but I'm new and it has a cool factor.
I can go the manual way if the knife is right.

My budget is anywhere from 1$-250$
The middle being a sweet spot.

Pics are also welcome. Show em off.

UPDATE:

After looking at videos using these Assisted blades. Iv noticed a struggle closing the knives. Throws ease of use and EASY one handed operation out the window.

Decided to go against assisted.
Decided to stick to the axis system so BM- No having to reach for a spine. Ease of use.

Options with prices in my area. (note this isn't usd it's cad) but the ratios stay the same.

Benchmade 940 s30v version - The weight---------------------------240
benchmade Nakamura - Just looks great--------------250
Benchmade 908 Stryker - Cool -----------200
Benchmade North Fork - Looks good------180
Benchmade 710 D2 version ----------------200
benchmade 698 Foray --------------------- 250
Griptillian - (new version) it's ok. -------------------230

I'll recommend the same knife I've recommended for years to folks I don't think will balk at the price: the Benchmade 940.

I've heard of people getting a bad Barrage, I've gotten a few lemons in other benchmade models, but I've never heard of, seen or handled a bad 940.

If you really want an assisted knife though, the 0770CF is a great option. Particularly the Knivesshipfree exclusive with CPM-M4 steel. Crazy edge retention.

I love both of these little knives. I'd give the edge to the ZT, as it's thinner, lighter, and easy to carry. You might want to consider the M4 version.

Between the two, I vote the 0770.
Some other suggestions:
BM 950 (Cutlery Shoppe exclusive)
BM 940
ZT 0450
ZT 0808
ZT 0562
Both the BMs are manual thumbstud, but the Axis lock is a very fast, smooth opening system. All 3 ZTs mentioned use KVT bearing pivot and flippers, so they rocket out. No need for assist.

The 0450 and the 0808, my two favorite ZTs.

I've had both and still have the 940. I vastly prefer the 940 for EDC, but the 0770 was a very nice knife and it really just came down to personal preference for me.

If you like a bigger knife, hard to beat the Crooked River. Light, strong and smooth. 178.50.

The 585 was my first serious knife. Absolutely love it and still have it and use it. I prefer it to other assisted openers because of the ease in closing. The -2 version is even better.

The 940 is another great blade although I would recommend the 940-1501 version for just a bit more. Opens as fast as any knife I have and its totally addicting to open and close. Its so lightweight that its easy to carry

Those being the two that got your eye, both being great knives from solid companies, flip a coin...
Then save up for the other one.

I would also recommend the 940-1501. Just got mine couple days ago, my 5th 94x, and it is an absolute gem!!
Thrilled with this one!

I started with both the 940-1 and the 0770CF m390. I thought I would keep the 940 and part with the 0770. Turned out backwards.
I now have the 0770CF in M390 and M4, and it has been hard for me to find something I like better.
All puchased here. I've been able to try a bunch of knives that way at essentially zero net cost. Good luck.

The Ritter Griptilian is worth considering. Or thr Griptilian with g10 handles. Excellent steel on both and strong edc knives.

Another vote here for the 940; I've owned several over the years and they've been great. The last one I owned was a 940-1 that I got a few weeks ago but gave it away to a deserving guy and I gotta tell you that's the best one I've had! Very light, awesome steel, looks legit with that carbon fiber! That being said, I just saw some ZTs that looked great too, specifically the 0450cf for your intended purpose. Either way, you'll probably end up owning all of them if you fall victim to the addiction!

I have the 0770 in elmax and m4 both are good, I have used both a good bit and neither one needs sharpened love the zt,s

BM 940.

The perfect EDC knife for the price range.

I would also suggest looking at a PM2.

I know, boring, but really, they are popular and respected for a reason.
