hey brothers, i was just thinking about the benchmade 710. i have a griptillian and love it, so i looked at the 710 and thought it would be just what i wanted. what are your opinions on it? is it reliable and can it stand up to hard use. also how do you think it compares to the mili in strength. thanks.

It's been Benchmades flagship knife for a good while. :)
Jump all over it. One of my favorite knives of all time and carry it most every day.
It's plenty strong, no issues I'm aware of at all.
Fantastic knife.

Ive own'd a 710, satin-finish plain-edge for a few months now, and carried it for EDC, and it never failed.. I LOVE it... and it still isn't dull yet... you know theres a re-curve to the blade so it'll be a lil tricky to sharpen.. but just send it in to a company if u have trouble... and strenght wise.. compared to the mili.. i dont have 1.. but i got a paramili.... and i think its problly capable of handleing more abuse then the paramili is acctually... ITS A GREAT BUY.. =D

Great knife... superb steel (D2), Axis lock, slim for easy carry, steel liners, and the recurve makes it a great slicer. On the other hand, the thin profile bites when you're doing a lot of cutting, and the recurve combined with the D2 is a b*tch to sharpen.

If you collect benchmades, you should make it a priority to get one of these. they're truly exceptional, and will stand up to anything you throw at it.

+1 to all others

since I got it, it has been my favorite knife, rock solid lock up, long usable d2 blade

it is probably as close to a "perfect" folder as it gets, could us a bit grippier G10 but it sure is pretty the way it is

worth every penny

I carried mine today. It is a great folder. You should get a military too.

It's a very good utility knife - the D2 version is one of very few out there in D2.

It's a little bit too long for me to carry, but a great user all around.

I don't know what you mean by hard use, but I think the 710 might have a slight edge on the military when it comes to strength. I've got no proof to back that up though.

i have the military and was thinking about getting the 710 because it seems to be the benchmade version of the mili if that makes any sense.

what's the nearest benchmade model to the 710, but without a recurve? like the looks and size specs, but never handled one. Hate recurves. Could even be a tad smaller.

How about the 705 ? it's a smaller version of the 710 without the recurve.

705 and 707 in 154CM are much much smaller versions of the 710D2, almost by half.

Looks like you're looking at the Osborne 943 in S30V

You mean the 707, do you? (i thought the 705 had a recurve, too...)

I think if you consider the style and design you wont find any other BMs that are like the 710 (except the smaller versions 705 and 707) - but i've seen pictures of 710s where the recurve had been removed.

Similar (or a bit smaller) in size could be the 615, 520 (both relatively heavy), 930, 94x, 790, 890 (last 2 have different locks)
The BM14205 could be interesting, too...

//edit: @ John Smith V: no, not by half :D
The difference is about 25 % - by far not 50 % ;)

Regarding the 94x: IMO its design is much different...

yeah, the 710 is to benchmade what the military is to spyderco inmop.

you gotta own both. for me personally though, i prefer to carry the military.

I'm not too sure about being the military. Always thought the 806 afck was more like the military, and the 710 is more like the para-military.

he was saying how they are to each COMPANY, not how the actual knives compare to eachother. They're each the sort of flagship knife out of their larger work/tactical knives.

of course the 806 is closer to the actual military. Probably because it has an opening hole and nearly identical blade geometry ;)

A good alternative if you don't like the recurve would be the Rift (model 950). Blade is a little shorter as well (3.67 vs. 3.90 inches). The Rift is a fantastic knife in my opinion.

here's a pic for you guys to compare :D
