Benchmade's AFCK vs. Spyderco's Military

I think you would be happy with either the AFCK or the Military, but the best way to decide is to handle each side by side. What feels great to one may suck to another. Try to find a shop or blade buddies that have the knives so you can compare. If I were you I'd also throw in the 710 Axis just to make it interesting. With so many good knives out there it's tough to choose but I think you've narrowed it down to some of the best. Good luck.

These two knives are pretty close in every way, I think. It is a personal preference call. You just have to handle them both and buy the one that you like the most.

I personally like the Military blade a little more. I like the CPM440V steel, the bigger and more prominent thumb hole, the wide flat grind, and the moderate belly. I like the AFCK handle a lot better. It is smaller, and has double Ti liners, each of which are thicker than the single nested liner/lock on the Military.

I am with Joe. I like the 710 Axis lock much better than either one, the SpeedTech Synergy really kicks their butts too, but it is double the price.

I have owned both(currently own and carry the Military).
My vote goes for the Military. For all of the same reasons listed before and because I prefer the grind and steel choice in the Military.
I don't think you will be unhappy either way, but if you can, get one of each. Of course then the problem will be which to carry as your primary user.

Hi Turgid. I almost bought a AFCK it's one of the only knives I like that is available in a left handed model. Nice knife, but when I handled the Axis it was love at first sight.

Oooo, I forgot...

The natually "pointy-end" of the AFCK's handle makes for excellent nerve strikes!!!

Go Military, will not wear out your pants as
fast because it's thinner. Also I like the way it handles, has better serrations, hole
ramp acts as a miniguard, and lighter in the
pocket.

I too have owned and carried and used both. Still have the AFCK in M2 so that should tell you my preference. Must admit however that the CPM440V steel in the Military takes a wicked sharp edge and holds it longer than M2. I could get the same wicked sharp edge on the M2, but it got to just sharp faster. But once I got an Emerson Commander, the AFCK went into the drawer.

Both are nice knives. The military has superior construction, but the AFCK is slightly more ergonomic. M-2 is nice, but I really dislike coatings and Benchmades wears just by looking at it. Benchmade has been known to have a few AFCK's with problems slip by so I wouldn't get one that I couldn't handle, or at least go through an internet dealer like Top of Texas that inspects each knife before shipping. I would give the military the nod, only because of personal preferences. Both are excellent.

I would go with the military also because it is a great buy for the current price being askd and is great steel and a very reputable company...

They both suck! Evolve, get an Axis Lock, or a Pinnacle, or a Rolling Lock, or a SpeedTech Synergy. Liner locks are dinosaurs!

Ooops, just happen to be carrying my pre-historic M-2 AFCK today. Doh!

Seriously, they are both great knives. My subjective preference is for the AFCK, but I like the Military also. The first generation had some problems, but the current generation Militaries are better. Differentiators: Military - CPM440V, great steel, stain resistant, takes a great edge and holds it long time. AFCK - M-2 high speed steel, takes a great edge, holds it long time, tougher than CPM440V. If you like to abuse you edge on metal, you might like the toughness of the M-2 blade. If you get your knife wet a lot, you might like the stain resistance of the CPM440V blade. The handle of the Military is BIG, but it is nice and flat, and carries in the pocket nicely. The AFCK is a little more compact. Other than that, I think it is all personal preference. They are easy to find in cutlery shops, so give them a test drive.

Which did you decide to get? Or did you decide on something else?
