Benchmades are actually not overpriced

It seems almost irrelevant IMO. They offer products that are unique to everything else on the market. If you like what they have to offer, it is up to you to decide if it is worth the price. Materials are only part of the equation.

Even when you compare the Grip and RSK, if someone wants a sheepsfoot blade with thumb-hole, why compromise for $25?

No one is arguing that they are a value brand and I think there is a $30-40 butterfly tax, but they built a reputation that is worth something whether people here see it as added value or not.

Comparing the RSK to Benchmades analog which is the 180$ 2CV/G10 model. IIRC, they stopped making either the large or mini -1s in sheep’s foot. Also, *wanting* a certain blade type doesn’t somehow change the materials. You just overpaid because you wanted something specific.

Anything with map is by virtue over priced because it disallows a vendor to charge less for a profit they are comfortable with.

Now..dont get me wrong I understand map to a degree..but itvis what it is

Advertised price of the Crucarta PM2 is 175ish. It does not have a cerakoted blade, that is true. But the knife is 40$ less than the new Adamas Mini and almost 60$ less than the large Adamas.

I believe that there are knives in BM’s line that are reasonably priced. The s90v/CF Bugout seems to be right around the same price as the sculpted CF/s90v Spyderco. Then again, Spyderco’s prices have gone up too.

Ok but how many Crucarta PM2 knives are they going to make, 1200?

Like alcohol, there are tons of varieties, flavors, and prices. We just buy what we like and the end result is usually the same.

I like the Benchmades and when I look at the prices they are up there with Spydercos. One handed fidget factor opening and closing knives are the ones I like the most. I do my best to try purchasing when on sale. But when do highly sought exclusives ever go on sale, msrp it is unless you miss out and buy it for more from a flipper.

Got a Hogue Deka recently, and was impressed with their ABLE lock that I went ahead and purchased a mini MSK. I do like the Benchmade Griptilians, so why not.

First they are USA made, guaranteed for life, will take care of you
So are Buck.

Oh, Buck doesn't require that you are the original purchaser, have a receipt, or whatnot for warranty work..
Inherit one from Gramps/Granny or Great Gramps/Great Granny, or find one along the road or in a crick/stream/river/pond/lake/in the sticks/boonies, send it in if it needs work, and they warrantee it.
Buck also has a SPA service to make the knife look new, and if it needs a new blade not under warranty, a standard current year blade is under $10 installed.

Benchmade doesn't require any of that. I've used warranty a few times and once recently, went very smooth.

Blade replacement doesn't affect my opinion. It only works if they have one left over, when a model is discontinued most likely you won't get a blade replaced.

Again. I love Buck, but they are just one company. Benchmade still offers other options Buck doesn't. That's what makes a knife community, full of companies trying to get your dollars.

In the end, Benchmade still offers a great knife that's reasonably priced compared to many other USA made companies. Buck doesn't negate all other knife companies.

I started the thread because specifically Benchmade will get reactions more often saying they are overpriced, but I don't see it. Not compared to other companies out there.

I like the shape of the 943 blade and the Axis Lock. I like the Titanium and Carbon fiber handles for the 940/943 series. I sold most of my Benchmades because the best steel I could get for my favorite handle/blade combination was S-30-V. Other brands offer S-60, S-90, S-110, and S-125. I don’t mind paying for my favorite combination.

Your overpriced examples have CF scales that's why.
True, but the m390 and Carbon fiber griptillian is 199. So even their own CF pricing is inconsistent. Tons of options under 200 bucks when it comes to premium scale material, really not sure why benchmade pumps the price up so hard.

Love benchmade, but they really need some consistency in their pricing.

It's because of the s90v on the 940-1. Harder to grind and finish, so I understand the pricing. I just don't like it. I do hava a 940-1, but I also didn't pay full price. Otherwise I wouldn't have one.

Whether something is overpriced or not is up to the consumer. When a company asks a premium or even a mid-range price for a product, they risk pricing themselves out of business unless they have a reputation to back it up. Does Benchmade have that reputation??? Well, they’re still going strong at the moment, so obviously a large portion of the market seems to think so.

After their map pricing policy started, I lost interest in Benchmade.

The A stands for advertised and that's all most manufacturers care about. Dealers can't advertise for less than the dictated MAP or give you a lower price in writing but they can sell it to you for however much they want that's why it's always best to buy stuff in person (cash helps everybody loves cash) or call dealers instead of asking dealers for a lower price in an email. Email replies for a lower price will always be no (unless they know you and you have a great relationship) because that lower price in writing could bite them in the ass if the manufacturer or a different dealer saw it. Dealers who break MAP rules can be penalized or even lose that manufacturer all together.

I bought 3 BM butterfly knives with different blade profiles , way back , IIRC early-mid 80's .

They were top notch ! And a decent value for what you got .

I believe they've slipped pretty far downhill since then .

In quality , value and philosophic alignment with their customer base .
