You know I can't believe how dead the BM forum is. For such a good knife company they sure don't do much for me in the forum dept. Where else can you make a post and ask for some help regarding one of their knives and have 43 people view it and not one take time to reply?

I finally deleted my thread and questions there and the web site from my favorites. It has to be one of the most boring forums I've been to. Am I alone in this or am I just biased because I'm apparently ignored over there?

It is a quiet forum, but that can't be blamed on Benchmade as a company.
The owners make a forum.

Benchmade owners don't seem to be fanatical like owners from some companies.

However, I'm a member there, and if I see a post that I can help with, I will.

Benchmade owners are fanatical enough over here! :D

Forum dynamics are a complex mix. Part of it is a topic worth talking about, part is the leadership provided. I can think of another company that has its own forum on its own website, and the conversation is busier because they respond to their customers and encourage conversation.

It's easier to do on a website like Bladeforums, though, because the wider range of interests than just one company's knives provides a more diverse and rambunctious group.

I'm a member there also but I don't have enough experience to help out too much.

Some folks are just not on the PC too much, can't hold that against them. Although in this day and age, they could be missing out on an aweful lot.

ive had a few benchmades over the years and ive loved them, hell why not start a benchmade forum here!? id sure be happy to throw my useless opinion around some! :)

On BladeForums manufacturer forums have to be started by the company, and Benchmade don't seem to be interested in having a forum here. Probably a good thing seeing as they don't spend hardly any time on their own forum.

I have been on the Spyderco Forum for over a year and a half now and I just joined the Benchmade.com Forum here about 6 weeks ago and I couldn't believe the vast difference between the 2 Forums.
Now please don't get me wrong my experiences on both Forums have pretty much been positive but the 2 Forums are so much different from each other: they are like day and night.
Now the Spyderco.com Forum seems like they have 4 times the traffic as the Benchmade one does. I kind of think that the FORMAT might truly have something to do with it. It took me quite a while longer to learn to navigate the Benchmade Forum than it did the one for Spyderco Forum.
Both Forums have tremendously good people from what I can tell but the brother is right about the low feedback rate on the Benchmade.com Forum.

Now that is a good question that the one brother posed: Why don't they have a Benchmade Forum here on BF? They have a really good Spyderco Forum here and it is a nice one with great people.

Keith Montgomery already answered your question. They dont want one for whatever reason, but I'm sure it has to do with losing control over every piece of content on their boards. I'm a BM fan, 7 x more BM's than spyderco's but IMO their boards are strictly controlled.

I think the problem was the big thread and post deleting event years ago. Anything remotely negative was whacked and disappeared. It was somewhat active before that but a definite chilling effect on discourse. When the stink about it started to get bad, and there where additional pointed posts asking why the censoring, their forums shutdown for a while.

Also people like NGK aren't allowed to be members. I don't know how many people remember Walt Welch, he was banned from the BM forum.

There where also a few forums upgrades that made it hard to get back in.

Then the problem is once something goes pretty queit it REALLY HARD to get it going again. Reaping what they sowed, IMO.

Based on that, I don't see them wanting to start a forum here, it would be a loose loose for them, discussing things negative and them being crucified if they tried to limit discussion.
