Bent or broken CAKs?

I've given mine the beating of their life - with no problems ever.

But this one (his) broke clean at the bolster - bad heat-treat, I guess. *shrug*
That is odd. That ought to be the softest part of the knife... a fluke, for sure. Now that I actually have a serious (read: HI/Sgt Khadka) khuk the idea of breaking one seems even more unbelievable; my little 12" BAS seems nigh indestructible with its measly 5/16" spine. :D
 
I wonder, perhaps....if we're reaching a "breaking point" - no pun intended - with the design...??

As in....the thicker it gets...the heavier it gets...the more force it puts at the bolster during heavy/hard use (point of rotation)...

Such that...a heavier knife is no longer a stronger knife....? (because of the extra mass)
