Bent tip: How to fix?

Someone used my favorite 4" paring knife to chip a block of frozen shrimp and the tip is now bent. This knife was a gift, it sells for about $40. Look at the pictures to see how bad it is.

The only place that fixed broken knives in town closed 3 weeks ago, went broke after the culinary institute across the street closed their doors. Is there a way to fix it? I think one might try to straighten it or just grind off the bent part and get a shorter but straight knife.

I welcome any tips, thank you.

just grind it off. a bent tip is a ruined tip, its always weak and ready to bend again.

p.s. you might consider a slight clip point to save some blade length

Bend it back. It will either work or break. If it breaks, it can be retipped. I, and several others here can do it.

Bill, that sounds interesting.

Can it be retipped for less that the cost of a new one?

I tried bending it back, I could not get it completely flat, impossible to sharpen for me :(

Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know how this ends.
