Congrats! It's one beautiful knife.

I'm been trying to get the silver on my scabbard to tarnish so that the handiwork will show through more when its polished. Only problem is that after a few months, the silver refuses to get dark. I tried putting lime juice on it (for the acid) and eggs (for the sulphur), but she still shines away. Maybe the silversmith coated the silver with something?

You can try putting it in a plastic bag with all the air you can remove from the bag. I use this for some of my more difficult to clean ndn silverwork and it has cut my polishing time by 3/4, a huge timesaver!!!!

I didn't put anything on mine and was beginning to wonder the same thing and then one day after some months I pulled it from the safe and the oxidation had started.
I think silver polished a few times is much prettier than new silver so it didn't dismay me any. I'm still waiting for it to tarnish quite a bit more before polishing in hopes that I won't have to polish it more than once, or at the least, twice.:)

Why is it all my silver stuff turns black and I don't want it to and those who want it to turn black end up with shiny silver? Another of life's mysteries.

Yup!
Try putting your silver in an airtight plastic bag. After you squeeze all the air out of it you can zip it most of the way up and then insert a straw and zip the bag up tight as possible. Then using the straw suck out all the remaining air possible. Your silver will not tarnish for a long time as long as the bag seal isn't broken.

Surely all y'all don't think us skins polish up all the brass and silver on our regalia each and every time we go to dance do you?  :p :)

Thanks, Yvsa.

Patience, patience . . . it'll happen. I share your thoughts on how aged polished silver looks. Patience, patience . . .
