We are back. Berlingame is a pretty big state park with over 700 campsites!
I can see it getting way too crowded during the summer. Luckily the cooler temps this early in the season kept it fairly quiet. Since Marcelo and I had our families we opted for the cabins. I wasn't thrilled about this at first, but it really did make a difference with the wives and Children. The cabins have 2 bunk set ups, no mattresses ofcourse; fairly decent sized. Probably abit crowded for Marcelo, his wife, and 3 kids; but plenty of room for my wife, daughter and I. I brought my hammock, in hopes to sleep in that, but the lack of trees on our site made it impossible. The camp site was on the south shoreline of Watchaug Pond. It is known to be pretty good Bass lake, as well as trout on the Northern end.
We arrived on the first day to winds blowing 30-40 MPH! High was about 53F. The overnight temps were to dip at about freezing point, and this morning I am quite sure it goth there; as everything was covered in thin layer of frost at 6am when I got up.
We had a great time and it was very nice to excape from stress of everyday life. The park was excellent for the kids and some lazy car camping. Its not the hardcore outdoors alone in the woods senario, but there is an abundant of things to do there. I would definately visit it again with the family.

Anyway, enjoy the pics!

With the campsite prepped, it was off to the beach (only a 10 minute drive away)

More coming

We also got a lil trail time in.

I didn't get anytime to fish, but the kids got to mess around alot. Marcelo's daughter Gabby is a natural!

One of our camp neigbors invited me out on his boat for a lil fishing today, the high winds kept him in Wed anf Thurs. Since we had to pack up and get out by 11am, I had to turn him down:(

Nights were fun

Last few coming up. Bare with me....

Fire and steel

Marcelo and I were trying our hand at carving each night. I made a couple of spoons and a funky lil spork thing. These are the only pics I got though.

The Brian Andrews Bushy is a whittling god! The Helle did well aslo.

I woke up each day at 6am and looked forward to making my morning coffee.

An hour or so later I would get my company.

And finaly the site all cleaned up. We left the next people a lil present by the fire though

As always, thanks for looking:thumbup:

Tony, That Looks like an awesome time.. Since the birth of my son all of my family trips have been under similar circumstances.. I don't get to nab dinner with an atlatl or anything but I always have a blast, and as I reflect back I think they are probabl some of the best times I've had in the outdoors... Great stuff Bro.

That looks like a great area tony, and a great looking beach there too, reminds me of Nova Scotia.

Looks like great fun. I hope to do some family camping this summer too; so far, my three year old daughter and I have not done much more than walk in the woods and "practice" camp behind the house near the fire ring, but it's a start!

Thanks for the comments fellas, we did have a great time.

I only regret not having more time to fish....

Default, how crazy is that place in the Summer? Some areas have campsites right on top of eachother......

I haven't been, but my friends say it's nuts in the summer - you have to make reservations way in advance. Reservations are for five star restaurants, not sleeping on the ground.

An alternative for family-style camping in RI that I like is George Washington SP in the North just over the border from Putnam, CT. It isn't as crowded, but there is still a lake there, and the sites are separated better. Also Pachaug SF in Voluntown, CT.

Awesome pics Tony..... Looks like a great time with the family.

Not sure if I wanna know what the "present" you left/pinched off by the fire is.

Seriously, you guys have great looking families. I bet it was a blast....

We were there mid August 2008; the whole park was 100% full (we had reservations from April). Some areas were really packed (like in the Main Camp area), but in the 400-413, you could breathe much more easily ;)
We spent all days at the different beaches though...When you come from a mountain area, you get a little crazy when you see the Big Blue :D

Looks a great trip, good to see families out enjoying nature and not stuck in a theme park or Mac Ds.
