besides an axis lock...

And how is it you manage to put your thumb on the lock without putting your fingers in the way of the blade?
I hold the knife on the sides, just like I do with a slip-joint.
It's easy.

Probably does what I do, depress the lock, push it on the leg a bit, move your hand then close it fully. Some knives you can even grip on the side and depress the front lock, like a Delica. Need strong fingers though.

My question, not to insult anyone, is do these things present a serious problem for anyone? Things like this and the issue of slipjoints being "dangerous" seem to pop up from time to time, and I've never hurt myself doing either. I've had my fair share of knife incidents myself, just not based on either of these two area. Is this common for you people? I would think a small dose of mindfulness would keep something like this, or thinking your slippie has a lock, from happening.

...If you hold the knife on the side, without your fingers being where the blade is going to go, how on earth can your thumb depress the lock? Wouldn't your thumb have to be holding one of the sides of the knife? The only way I could imagine unlocking a lock back without your fingers ever being in the way of the blade would be to maybe hold it by the sides and use your index finger...but it would have to be a pretty weak lock...
