I got this from my friend in France Kevin, I find it to be a versatile little cutter. Its called a Douk Douk and is according to Kevin a very widely used knife in France..

Those are great knives for the price. The name sounds like it's some sort of slang word in a foreign language for poon tang. Opinels are a solid competitor in all areas to Douk Douks except for that magical factor.

Those have been around for quite awhile. Many folks love em. I personally try to avoid anything from France.

- an original laguiole?
- a Nontron?
- a good bourgogne?
- Audrey Tautou?
- champagne?
- a Citroën DS?
- lemon tart?
- Roquefort and Camembert?

Douk Douk's are great & I luv mine. Mercator, opinel, & Okapi's are all good cutters. You can't go too wrong here. I pefer the Douk though as I don't have to worry about the Opinel locking up if wet. Okapi's do not swell shut either.

Fred Perrin likes to carry the Douk douk. I will buy one some day.
I just got a #10 Opinel with a 4" stainless steel (sanvik) blade for $14. A very nice sturdy locking knife at a cut rate price. I also have a Laguiole which sits in a box, and boxes of Bordeaux wines that appreciate in value unlike the stock markets. I like to try everything once.

Yeah, they are great knives but I prefer the Mercator.
They are indeed the Mora of folders.

To me, the best ~$20 pocket knife is the Taiwan-made KaBar #4062 Drop-point Hunter. Add a few denaros and you can still find a WallyWorld with the Buck #503 Prince for a smallish pocket knife - or the venerable Buck 110 Folding Hunter for a 'man-sized' variant. Both are still <$25 up the street from me - and US-made.

best 20 dollar knife (for me) by far is the byrd Crossbill!

Havn't seen any other knife worth as much for the price.

Opinel for me. Don't have a Douk Douk yet, but it's on the list. :)

Opinel knives and Bolle glasses, couldn't live without them. My sincere appreciation to the fine people in France who continue to make quality traditional products.
