Best 2" spyderco

A favorite small Spyderco of mine is the Dyad jr. I think the lightweight (which is clipless) is still readily available. The two blades, plain and serrated make this knife the most versatile of the smaller Spydercos.

I'm surprised he did not like the Navigator. While I did not like the most recent version with almite scales w/slots, I loved the G-10 ones.

Skip the Jester. Its a great little peice but probably too small as a "pocketknife." Its quite small.

Go with the Kiwi or SS Cricket. If he's a lefty, definately go with the Kiwi. The framelock on the Cricket is designed for righties.

The Kiwi is a bit more refined. The jigged bone Kiwi is a bit more refined still. He would be very pleased with it, I'm certain.

Both the Kiwi and Cricket are very ergonomic when open, but a bit harder to open for big hands. Of course that just comes with their small size. The Cricket seems to "spydie-drop" better. Maybe because the thumb-hole is a bit larger on the Cricket.

The reverse "s" blade on the Cricket is less conservative than the almost wharncliffe style of the Kiwi.

I really like both. I've given both as gifts. Kinda depends on the specific situation.

I agree with Anthony.
I have an old version micarta Dyad Jr (with ATS-55 blade steel) and it is my favorite small pocket-knife.
I don't carry it because I prefer a larger EDC, so now it's a collection piece.

Good luck,
Allen.

It's slightly longer then 2" (2 1/8"?), but the Spur is my favorite small Spyderco. Took me a while to find some!

Some great little knives with a big personality:

1. Spyderco Dodo
2. Blade Tech Mouse 2 (Tim Wegner) (G10 or CF)
3. Spydercp Meerkat

My favorite little Spyderco is the Meerkat. However, the design is basically the same as the Navigator--just different scales and a different lock.

Another knife that you may wish to consider, although it is rather more expensive than the Spydies, is the BenchMade 770 Gent's Pocketknife Series. It has a 2.8" blade, true, but it still fits into a true penknife sized package and comes with an Axis Lock. I bought one of the Pre-production models with carbon-fiber scales and it looks extremely nice, with all of the edges bevelled and even the pivot pin having file-working on it. Roger at Knifeworks has them for $90.99 for the basic model with black aluminum scales and a plain steel blade up to $137.99 for the top of the line model with carbon fiber scales and BC-1 coated blade. His current price on the model like mine is $124.99. Please see http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=MFGSEARCH&ManfID=1076&Page=3
