I recently bought a Ka Bar Dozier hunter while shopping the other day, I picked it up and couldent believe the quality for the price.

This knife is finished as well as any $40-50 folder out there with a plastic handle.

The blade shape is great,it came razor sharp and the steel isnt bad (aus 8a)

The lock is more than positive and it opens smoothe, the clip is fine,it has an adjustable pivot and the handle is pretty rigid for a FRNR handle.

All in all a great little folder for the price(possibly the best).

Hell, the blade grinds are even also!

Was looking at that new model just today Esav, also in the new AG winter 2004 catalog that also just came today in the mail!

Man dont people on this forum think alike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw it first in the e-mail Weekly Special. Temptation! I really like my Thorn.

For me ,I would have to say it is my $20.00 Cuda Arklite neck knife. The few days I've had it I'm really impressed with it for being such a bare bones small knife. No bells whistles etc.

I still like the Kershaw Vapor frame lock. The Dozier won some award for imported knife quality award from some Blade magazine not that long ago. I see it on Ebay often for around $15.

The Thorn has been out for years. AG Russel has a version of it and so does KaBar. Nice blade - get one and give us a detailed review.

Thanks for the review links.

The signature on the bottom was a reaction to another posters "Poor animal" signature. I believe we hunt because it is in our nature. I use to use terms like tree hugger or granola eater to discribe some of these people, but I like granola and respect forests too. These days my most appropriate term is Sheeple.

We don't have to agree on hunting or self defense issues, but this forum didn't seem to me to be a strong hold for animial extremeist groups like PETA or others of the same ilk. Instead of butting heads directly with someone else who, has the right to their opinion, I just tried to make a pro hunting statement. I probably didn't do very well with the statement and will try to think of something else to convey my message more clearly.

Your sig isn't bad. I just can't resist the anthropology :D You won't find my name on PETA's Board of Directors, that's for sure.

I think that the Cold Steel Bushman is a hard knife to beat for a $20 bill.

Cold Steel's Trailguide, a flat-ground Carbon V lockback, is also a steel steal at $18 online for the 3" bladed models.

You are right about that! My apologies to the Sharpfinger.

Schrade also has some well made slipjoints for $10-20 brimming with 1095 goodness.

I would have to agree with the old timer sharpfinger.I once bought two at k-mart about 12 years ago for $20 actually $9.95 each and they're both going today though ones tip is broke.

The Opinel No 7, I believe, comes in at $9 from Williams Sonoma (fancy kitchen store and catalog). The Opinel gives you a carbon steel blade, flat/convex grind, a wooden handle and a blade that locks open and shut.

I recently got a Spyderco Jester for about $18, it's a VERY nice little knife. My wife has a Ladybug which is also nice, but it never felt quite right in my hand. I read that the Ladybug was designed as basically a miniature of the Delica, but that the Jester was designed from the ground up as a 'mini'. It shows. It feels very comfortable in my large hands and it really feels like a much larger knife.

I also just bought a Timberline Mini Pit Bull for $15 from a forum member. Another great little knife. I think they usually go for about $25, so you could probably find one for about $20 if you shop around.

I won't list all the Victorinox Swiss Army Knives that can be had for under $20, but I do EDC a Tinker and it is great.

Many of the Ontario Old Hickory Kitchen knives are under $10 let alone $20 and many of them would make great outdoor knives, especially with a bit of modification.

I'm sure there are many more, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.

Vapor II is the among the nicest <$20 I've used.
I've heard nice things bout the kabar dozier mix. I'm gonna have to pick one up some day.

Just received two Ka-Bar Doziers in the mail--ordered because of the good words here. Very nice knives, and a whole lot of bang for the buck. Shaving sharp, adjustable pivot. These will do nicely to expand my EDC collection. I intend to get all the blade shapes. I'll do a minireview in a few weeks after using and carrying...

Thanks!
U
