Best .22?

I paid $250 for my Rem 541T w/ a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10A0 about 5 yrs ago. This was my BEST buy to date.

Best shooter that I've used were some DCM style .22LR that were on loan from our government when I was in high school (a while ago....LOL). Remingtom 513T w/ Redfield peep sights was the one I chose.

Ray,
Sorry to hear about th BRNO. What I know about them is based on what I'ver read in the rec.guns usenet group. Everything I read there was positive and that's why I went looking for one. I exchanged email with several people about them, all with positive comments. But by the time I started looking, evidently the stockpile was gone. So I got a CZ instead.

One thing I did learn about 22s is that you pays your money and takes your chances. Seems like all the higher end 22s have some variability in them. But my understanding was the best of the best are the Kimber and the Anschutz. If I was going to buy another, it would be the Anschutz. But I'm glad to hear the positive comments about the Remingtons. Based on the comments I've read, the Remingtons and Rugers were a little more variable than the Kimbers and Anschutz. But the prices are a lot better.

I was also looking at Sakos. I'm not sure how consistent (rifle to rifle) they are. When I was in Finland, my Finnish friends were shooting Anschutz. But I think that was because, believe it or not, the lower-end Anschutz were fairly cheap compared to the Sakos. Anyway, I do know of one person who returned a SAKO 22 because they weren't happy with the groups but in general, they have a glow-in-the-dark reputation, especially among the bigger bores.

My CZ came with a site-in target showing the groups it can do with open sites. Did your BRNO?

Guess I'm going to have to take another look at the Remingtons. BTW, I'm with you on peep sites. I really love them. I just bought a New England Firearms single shot 22 that I'm thinking of having peeps put on. These are dandy 22s for the money. It shoots a pretty good group but I can't tell you how good because the trigger is a little stiff. I need to get it over to the gunshop for a trigger job. But even with the stiff tigger, it was shooting into a dime at 25 yards.

HooDoo, No, the Brno didn't come with a sight in target. Supposely the ones they were stocking at Lew Horton's were training rifles from WW2. This one rifle was pretty funky: it use to get a mold/fungus (dunno what it was....LOL) growing on the outside if I stored it in a case for a period of time. After a while I stored it in a locked case where I had a Golden Rod Humidifier stick and that 'fuzz' problem went away. The Brno uses a weird sized dovetail scope rings as well. Warn out of OR make the rings, but at $100 for a pair I couldn't justify the cost. I figured that if I could shoot decent groups with it iron sited, a scope wasn't gonna make much of a difference. I did like that 3 leaf folding yardage rear site.

I've shot a bunch of the Anschutz in .22LR - these were running bore class rifles and were of course pure RIGHT handed models. Triggers were pretty nice, but they were like crazy money.

Some of those hard core benchrest folks tell me the ugly BLUE Marlin 2000 were suppose to be ringers.

I haven't had the time to try them out yet. Life now a days is occupied a lot by my hyper-active 3.5 yr old daughter. In years past I would spend Saturday at the range shooting everything from .177 spring tuned air rifles to some medium bore .338 win mag. I'll be able to do that again real soon.....LOL <--- not.

New England Firearms is a local company. Lots of solid user rifles and shotguns for real reasonable $. Buddy on mine was using one of their 10 GA single shots a few seasons ago. Man, that SOB was LOUD. I can't say if it was more effective than the 12 GA, but NO ONE crowded around him when he shot.

The steel receiver TC semi-auto rifle they advertised recently does look nice.

Kind of reminds me of the 10/22 and Ruger .44 MAG carbine. TC makes a solid product.

Where is the 'best' place to buy Redfield peeps anyway? I ask for them whenever I walk into a gun shop and poke around. All I find is the Marble's stuff which works, but its not as precise.

Sorry for rambling, I have a great passion for hunting and fishing (any everything else associated with it....lol).

So many toys - so little time.
