Best $250 knife.

Automantic,
I just got a picture of the new "Marksman" on my website. Go take a look, and let me know what you think. It is a little less than your $250 budget, but I doubt you would mind the savings.

Thanks,

Hi Lynn,

I just went, the pic of the Marksman never appeared. All I got was a box with a red X in it.

John

John,

I'll have to second a couple of the suggestions here and add my own.

First, I'll throw my hat with Paracleseus' and vote for Jerry Hossom, www.hossom.com , he makes attractive reasonably priced knives, probably the most "bang for the buck".

Second, I've corresponded with Mr. Blackwood, and I know he'll stand behind his goods. Plus, I really like the way he makes his knives. You can't go wrong with him

Third, I really like Ed Caffrey's work as well http://www.mtn-webtech.com/~caffrey/ .

It's a tough choice, let us know how you decide.

Matt

John,
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I got the problem fixed (I think). Please go check it out, and let me know if it works now, and what you think of the "Marksman". Make sure to refresh the Gallery page, and the page that comes up when you click on the "Marksman".

Thanks again,

I just added a White G10handled "Marshall" to my website. I also added a Carbon Fiber/G10 compositehandled "Tracker". Take a look, and let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Thanks Automantic!
Great thread....I just ordered a Marksman from Lynn Griffith!!!!Great knives, great prices!!
It's been a while since I checked out Lynns website. The last time I did, his Sniper cought my eye. This time it was the Marksman!
It will make an excellent addition to the Sniper! Same shape just larger. Of the many ATS34 knives I own, Lynns have, by far, the best heat treating. The Small blade of the Sniper takes alot of flex, has never broken or chipped and holds an edge better than any of my other ATS34 knives! He has the process down to a science as far as I'm concerned!
Dealing with Lynn has been a pleasure. When he says the knife will ship, it ships! I cant wait until the Marksman is ready.
Neil

Hi all,

It's harder than I thought it wopuld be to pick...

I think I will narrow it down to 5 knives and list them in alphabetical order.

I should have the list done by Friday.

John

WOOO HOOO ! John. You have hit the mother lode. You can have enough choices available to drive even the most stable person Bonkers.
I do not envy you the hunt. I might suggest you plan on getting a lesser priced factory knife for now and plan on going to a custom knife show. It would like sending a bird dog into an aviary. The price range you gave and the specifications are ripe with choices.

Good Hunting,

ts

Neil,
Wow. Thanks. That is a great compliment. Especially coming from a fellow knife maker (great one at that) and a machinist.

Thanks again,

In my humble opinion, you won't go wrong with either Neil's or Lynn's knives. They are both fantastic to do business with, totally immersed in their craft, and downright good people. I have knives on order with both of them. Which is, by the way, my recomendation: buy one from each, and throw that unreasonable budget restraint out the window!

"This is the last one. I mean it this time."

MAN!

I had this list done twice, but my computer keeps deleting it so I have to go back over everything again!

I am going to re-type it tomorrow when I get back from Kansas City.

John

Thanks Paul! That's NO BS Lynn!
I've said it before in other posts. I carry neck knives all the time. The Sniper in the "rotation" with two of my own. They all get used as needed. Sometimes beyond the call of duty for knives in that size range. Like cleaning Blue fish and Red Snapper!
At this point, I realy don't have a model in the size or style that is being discussed so I vote for the Marksman!

Neil

I favor the Chris Reeve Shadow IV with the 5.5" blade or the Shadow III 4" blade with the Pancake holster.Super sharp and machined from one piece of steel so the handle will never come off or loosen. the knurling makes the grip non slip even when wet and with gloves on.The 4" $175.00 and the 5.5" $225.00

Uggh! Too many choices!

Here in NO particular order is "The List":

Ron Gaston Boot knife. (Available used for $250.)

Greg Lightfoot Mini Hammer.

Brian Tighe Alo boot.

Lynn Griffith Sniper.

Thomas Haslinger Stuby.

What's that you say? You want to know my favorite of the top 5? I would have to say that its a tie between the Tighe and the Haslinger.

John
