Best 3 Day Backpack (In your experience)

You can also get the ZXR, which is a little bigger, but has the bottom zipper, since that's your thing.

ZXR

Of course, ZXR stands for <Cough>Zulu<Cough> eXtreme Ruck ;)

I have to admit I bought the Zulu because it's a top loader. I just have a hard time trusting a pack designed to open at the bottom. :D

Too big for my needs, unfortunately :(.
Besides, way too rich for my pocket .

So my price range is around 150 and I can stretch that to 200 bucks for a really quality piece of gear.

I currently use a Kelty Redwing 3100 its about five years old and ready to be replaced.

I was looking for something with alot of MOLLE attachments (Maxpedition Condor II) 100 ounce bladder and at least 1750 Cubic Inches of space...but I really have no experience with the Tactical Bags (except for the ol ALICE pack which I will never carry again, for personal reasons ;))

Thanks Guys!

i just found that 3100 redwing kelty on sale for 50 bucks. so i bought it. it seems like a good pack for 1-3day events

Mountainsmith Maverick-it's been in 30+ states now, over the last 3 years, in all 4 seasons, and I have yet to find a single complaint about it. The nylon material is bombproof and very water resistant and the overall layout is awesome for easy access and organization of tools. You can never go wrong with Kelty, especially their military packs (froogle that line, lots of places have older models that Kelty doesn't list on their site) and if you really want an awesome piece, start with an Eberlestock Terminator and go to TAD Gear or Grey Group Training's websites to check out some sick pouches for it.

Reviving this thread because I love bag/backpack threads and I like seeing what other people got. Mine is from Diamondback Tactical. A little expensive, but this thing is bombproof and made in the good 'ol USA. Had it for over 5 years now and still going strong, barely showing signs of wear and that's with some solid outdoors time.

I consider it a little small for a three day pack so I use it for my hunting pack or whenever I trot out in the woods just for the day. The contents may vary depending on what I'm doing (during deer season its loaded with hunting supplies) but these are the things that are ALWAYS in it:

Now before you scoff at the old-school USGI canteen mounted to the side my pack, I gotta say I have yet to find a better, lighter, more compact system than those old things. Or maybe I just have a soft spot for them....I used to collect them as a kid and I still can't stop aquiring them! Really though, they work great for me. I have my water, stove, cup, and firemaking stuff all in one little package and if need be, I can quickly detach it from the pack and wear it on my belt.

not sure of how much you want to spend, but Mystery Ranch makes a couple of nice smallish packs

this is their three day assault pack

Dana Gleason oversees Mystery Ranch- he is the former owner of Dana Designs packs and is famous for over fortifying packs- I've owned several DD packs and they were bombproof- literally :) he developed the Bomb pack back in the 80's for use by ski patrol folks carrying explosives :D

little spendy, but it's a pack you could likely pass on to your grand kid

I have that exact same pack, same color. It is well built and totally flawless in my opinion. A solid investment.

I have a Kelty 50 for about $100
Excellent 3 day pack
Comfortable
Good choice of outdoor colors that blend without being tactical

Don't forget they have a new overseas produced line out or out very soon, you can get a 3 day knock off for way less direct from them. They don't have the same materials and what not but they are very close.

3 days really isn't all that much. My Maxpedition Falcon II with extra pouches carries enough for a 3 day excursion. Besides guns and ammo, it's all I take to my friend's deer lease when we go shooting over the weekend. I can load it with all the survival gear, extra clothes, lights, batteries, food, etc... that I need for 3 or even more days. It also holds my SRKW Rucki with a ESEE Molle back rather well. It doesn't fit much beer though...
