One other idea is a Manly Drugar in cpm154, I got mine from that place that sounds like a river in South America, about your price range. The Manly web site may have it but they sell quick. Very comfortable handle.

The best at what. Not rusting if you forget it. Staying the sharpest. The best at cutting or poking.

Check out the Ontario Blackbird SK-5. 154CM stainless 5" FFG. It's a workhorse.

Depends on what you mean by “high end stainless steel”.

Would help if you’d specify what you want the knife to do. Go!

Do you have any preferences about which stainless steel? Would D2 work for you, not stainless, but very close, keeps a very good working edge. I guess that is due to the larger carbides. If D2 is acceptable, in the Manly web site there is a Drugar in D2 in wood handle scales. Shorter than 5 inches, but worth considering.

I don't have a ton of experience with bigger knives but I like my Viper Golia ok, although it would be better without the slight recurve. The Viper T5 looks like an awesome candidate and is on my wishlist. Both are just a little over your budget if purchased new.

My first thought was CS SRK in 3V. But like goldie goldie said, it is 6".

Manly Drugar is another good one.

Others to look at maybe ....

Check out the Lionsteel lineup
Several models in the 5" size iirc
Great designs, ergos and materials.

I honestly seldom look at fixed blades under $150 any more. The last one was a 4.25" Buck Cabelas Alaskan Guide series which I think is a nice knife; just not 5".

Have you looked through the knifemakers' for sale section in the exchange? Lots of great blades listed there every day. Sooner or later, someone will be listing just what you're looking for, whatever that is.

One last thought, CS Master Hunter in 3V. 3V is not stainless though, sorry, just realized that.
