Best 8" knife - FSH, NMSFNO, Basic 8, or new ASH-2?

Definitely one of my favorites at this point, original run Fusion Steel Heart CG

It really depends... If I'm carrying the knife for anything > 5 mi weight becomes the overriding factor in the decision...which is where the basic series really shine. The only 8" range Busse Full tang I would consider for actually carrying any distance is the TGLB and my all time favorite DSF. The DSF is a pleasure to carry comparitively and it is a jack of all trades...perfect! Very lively and tough....and weighs waaaay less. While the NMFSH is awesome to hold and look at, it literally feels like and anchor on your belt after 2 miles or so. I've always wanted a skinny ASH....someday.

Lookin`foreward to both my Ergo Hearth and my Basic-8, to compare to each other...:D

NMFSH doesn't count for this thread, as it is not an 8" blade.

The FSH comes in enough flavors that you have to specify among them: the original FSH (0.25"), the original HH FSH (0.27" sabre), HOG FSH (0.312"), MOASH (O.345"), and then Show Special variants, many of which are 0.27" but with a full height flat grind. Some folk call these newer ones HHFSH, but as a purist/pedant I won't. Either of the 0.27" versions is the sweet spot for me.

This one is kind of nice, as it is a 1 of 1

Before I scored that one from the Easton Show, I had picked up this real HHFSH from Trevor

I stole this pic from mercmaster years ago, because I love me a clip point

So I sent a FSH to ban to be modded

But the BEST 8 incher is, of course, this one

Nice blades! Well as far as I have heard directly from the shop -- the HHFSH design is suppose to be .27 saber grind FSH. Many people claim that HHFSH is only 1 of the 200 released with black canvas Micarta fusion handles with the black crinkle coat. But obviously that's not true because other than handle variations (e.g g10, g10 hand shaped, canvas micarta, canvas micarta hand shaped, g-Rex, etc.), the specs and design is exactly the same. In my opinion if the blade design, blade profile, and edge grind are the

Are the same --- then it's not considered a variant. A variant theoretically should vary in either blade profile, shape geometry, grind, dimensions, and/or handle dimensions. However, I leave it to Garth or some other more qualified person to weigh in and provide a final verdict on this.

Yes, the original HHFSH were sold by idahoskunk at the Busse Company Store, and were 0.27" sabre; 200 in standard black micarta, 200 in magnum micarts. It would be fair to call any new blade with those specs a HHFSH. Maybe we need a new name for the 0.27" flat grind variants?

I agree -- .27 fsh with full flat grind and slightly thinned out edges are also incredible users. I'm just a little partial/biased towards the saber grind ones

I definitely miss mine, but I know that it's in good hands...

I miss mine too, but there will come a time when I'll either own it again or modify another one to be just like it. That is the perfect combo Troy .
