Best all around blade

As willywonka and wjswiger pointed out and maybe others as well -- if you already have the machete with some length. - i would opt for the shorter CAK - one long one blade (machete ) and one medium or short CAK best of both worlds

I can tell you that the 20 plus inch CAK that i own is a good sized blade and a lot heavier than i thought it would be -- if you are slender in build it may cause you to lose balance when swinging long strokes and may bring fatigue if many strokes/cuts are needed

In fact a lot of what you are asking I think depends of you physical strength and size – in a “survival” situation fatigue and can be a killer

another good aspect of the Khukuri in survival is it can also be used as a drawknife as well as all purpose blade - you mentioned 18 inch that or a lil shorter; from what i read of your posts it sounds like what you are looking for -- as alrady said earlier - 1/4 and 1/2 inch spines are not always nessasary - HI has sevral great all purpose Kuks

If hiking camping etc etc I would unjust another small blade or good pocket knife for small work -- makes some jobs easier - there are a few good companies that make very good 3 - 6 inch all purpose blades - good luck to you

I like the Gelbu special. How about a chiruwa gelbu though? Im kinda set on chiruwa I guess because I intend to rehandle one of them and I have no idea how I would do that on a rat tail tang. I'm pretty sure i'd mess that up big time lol.

Eric,

Thank you for your post. I've gotten a lot of sound advice and good suggestions so far. Guess I have a lot to consider. Not as simple as I initially thought. Hope you are feeling better by the way.

... How about a chiruwa gelbu though?...

You could ask Yangdu about it. I know how it is when you've got something in your head that you want to do, so have at it. A 15-16.5" CAK or a chiruwa WWII or BAS (though those last two might be more of an anomaly) would be good for your purposes.

I prefer the Gelbu just the way it is...but that's me. Happy hunting/sharking.

I'd recommend a 15" Bonecutter.

Anttheknee,

As what i know Rajkumar made an overkill Gelbu Special with 4 pins few months ago and my buddy Cotherion had one ordered as well. You might want to ask Auntie to hold one for you. Get a 21" if you can. It's one light and sweet blade. I have faith in StickFred's taste.

Received my OTK "Ozark Bowie" and find that to be the best blade of all time....in my opinion.
