Best all around bowie knife under $1k?

You don't need a bowie for general survival, you need an easily field maintainable 4-5" blade, with a sturdy moisture-proof sheath. Please state what activities you see as "general survival", because it seems to differ from my definition.

I've already got a 4.5" Doug Ritter in S30V that fills this need. I want the additional length of the bowie blade to add the task of chopping light wood, and to be used as a two handed scraper. Two things that are difficult to do with a 4-5" blade, and I always have a folding knife for small work. However, something like the Busse Battlemistress might be a little unweildly for lighter tasks.

Hi MicroAlign -

I am not certain what premium steel means to you, but I can show off my JK Handmade Gambler's Bowie to you - it is in your size range, and John can custom make almost any design you can envision. My Bowie was 1/4 of what you are looking to spend. The Bowie is made from 01 tool steel.

Good luck, I am sure you will get something very nice, you are looking in the right place and asking the right people.

.....Ok, one question though, what kind of sheath do you use with that thing?
Here's your answer. Phillip called it "kinda ugly" but it works. (The sheath, not the blade). I always figured it to be an attractive knife, certainly nicer than a lot of stuff that costs more (Busse for example). God knows it cuts and keeps an edge.
