Best all-around Busse EDC?

Howdy Hogs!

I'm new to the Busse world. I've been lurking for months, watching both the regular and sales forum to see what Busse/Kin are going for, and wrapping my head around the myriad models. I've got some old music gear and a knife or two sitting around unused that I'm considering converting into some sweet INFI and SR-101. My thought is to buy a Busse EDC/skinning blade, and a BusseKin big blade for chopping and camp chores, to be carried together while in the brush. So I'm looking for input from all of you professional INFI addicts on the best Busse EDC and the best Kin 9" blade for processing wood and general survival use.
Right now I'm waffling between almost all of the 3-4" blades, but especially the AMS and the Game Warden, as they are plentiful in the sales thread, and all within my planned budget. For a bigger blade, the SYKCO 911 seems to be the ideal answer for the money.
These are my thoughts, but I can be persuaded otherwise. So here I am, just a naive hoglet in training, about to take the first dangerous step down a road that will most likely see me selling off all of my worthwhile possessions to feed my newfound habit. If you had 500 bucks, or thereabouts to spend on Busse/Kin steel and wanted to fit this bill, what would YOU buy?

Thanks!

IMO I would flip that...I would get a SYKO 311 and reprofile it for skinner and get a Killa Zilla or KZ2 for the chopper. The Busse basic series is the best of all IMO. I just carry a SOD to do all that.

A great pairing would be one of the following small blades + one of the following large...

Small:
- GW (handle is a bit small for me)
- AD (my favorite)
- MS (my second favorite)

Large:
- SYCo 911
- Basic 10 (my second favorite for this combo and better for hiking and non-bushwhacking)
- Basic 11 (my third favorite)
- SYCo 1311 (my favorite because it is also a machete but may be too big for your use)

If I had $500, I would get either a Basic 10 LE or Basic 11 to fill the chopper role. Both of these can typically be purchased off the exchange for less than $350, which would leave $150-200 for a small EDC blade.

For a small EDC I am partial to the 311, Rodent Solution and Anniversary Mean Street. If money was no issue I'd take the AMS over the others, but you'd have a hard time staying under $500 pairing it up with a B10LE or B11. Otherwise, a 311 or Rodent Solution would pair up nicely and serve you quite well for the money spent.

Thanks for the replies guys! I definitely considered a B10, but the chopper will see substantially less use than the smaller blade, which will be my EDC and will be used for everything my Spyderco Breeden Rescue does now, which is quite a bit. That being said, I'm thinking that going the less expensive route on the big blade and making an investment on the small blade will be my best bet at this time. The other consideration that I neglected to mention in the OP is that I will need pants for both blades if they're not included with the blades. The cost of pants has to be factored into the budget.

As far as the GW and MS, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the designs? Does either excel at one thing above others? The GW seems like it would be an excellent skinner, but maybe a tad short for some EDC tasks? The more I look, the better the AMS looks for an all-around small blade. The handle does seem skinny in pics though. Anyone EDC either of these? What carry configuration do you recommend for secure, stylish, non-tactical EDC?

Sorry to be a PITA, I'm just trying to make the perfect decision the first time (LOL), as these will be the most expensive blades I've bought up to this point in my life. You guys are awesome and I've really enjoyed lurking here, and I'm looking forward to participating more, once I have some real experience with these sweet blades.

I think the AMS is better suited for EDC vs. the GW, whereas the GW is more of a dedicated skinner IMO.

I personally don't see the logic of getting an SR-101 chopper and INFI EDC, even if the chopper won't be used much. In my opinion, INFI is best suited to blades 6" and up, while SR-101 is best suited to knives 6" and under. But that is just my opinion (which is worth next to nothing) and this is not my purchase, so I won't fault you for choosing what you want. I do have a few questions though.....

What characteristics are most important to you in a small EDC knife? Can you put them in order of priority?

Also, what tasks do you normally do with your EDC? Is there any task that is done more frequently than the others?

With 500 I personally would get the KDSH and an RMD or RS to fit all of those duties. but out of whats listed id say the 1311/1111 and the AMS.

Thanks for the input guys. It's helping me to look at this from different perspectives. aaaa_cccc, I typed a nice long reply to your post and then had a server issue when I tried to post it. I'll re-type it when I have the time this evening.

sometimes in the left hand corner of the message box there is an option to restore what was previously written if you have a mistake and its deleted. I always check for the box before i start writing again

it will say restore auto-save or something like that. click on it and it will bring the text back.

Excellent to know, Thanks!

Best bang for your buck will always be to purchase any of the current offerings from any of the 3 shops. Small= rodent solution is hard to beat and if you want to spend more the Anniv Mean Street are awesome and come in satin or coated. Larger I would go for the swamp rat rodent 9 or a scrpayard 911. I love the Basic 10 myself, but you will need to purchase that on the exchange and would eat up most of your budget for knife+sheath. Honestly, pick the ones that appeal to you the most. All 3 companies make outstanding blades and you will most likely love whatever you choose. If you don't like it, you can always sell it and purchase something else. GL!

I recently went through a similar process, and while I have about as much experience with Busse knives are you do, I ended up with a TGLB with competition finish, sterile AMS with a double cut finish, Game Warden and Sarge 7.

The TGLB is my all around camp knife, AMS my daily carry in the mountains, Game Warden my skinner and the Sarge 7 just because. Prefer the sweep on the GW for skinning duties, but the AMS would also work.

Didn't mean to purchase four Busse knives, but I'm waiting on the TGLB and AMS to come in from Busse and needed to feed my new found addiction with the GW and Sarge 7. According to the veterans on this forum, this is how it all begins.

I always type messages on my word processor, just for luck.

If Bladeforums eats my homework, I have a copy to resubmit.

Mateo I have almost the same setup you are talking about. A 711 and 911 for my choppers, paired with a Basic 4 le magnum (just got it this week from aaaa_cccc) and I love it, and I don't go anywhere without my scrapivore. IMO its a great set for the money, and someday I'll be able to afford a infi chopper.

For me it is hard to beat the Meaner Street and Active Duty. Probably my two most used/carried blades.

Sorry for the poor pics. Just what I had in photobucket at the moment.

Hey,

I think the Busse Basic 10 LE is the greatest knife ever!
