Best all-around Busse EDC?

General Utilitarian EDC, wow. For a ###of years I have carried the GW with a .140" blade. Have carried GW's w/.195", AD's from .170-.210". But the new AMS is just a sweet knife. Handles well, easy to use, .160"ish blade at 3.6" in blade length. They are all some of the best knives money can buy, but right now with the availability of the AMS I'd get it.

Large knife, for the money VOXHOG kinda hit that on the nose,
Large:
- SYCo 911
- Basic 10 (my second favorite for this combo and better for hiking and non-bushwhacking)
- Basic 11 (my third favorite)
- SYCo 1311 (my favorite because it is also a machete but may be too big for your use)
Hoggin' Vox

Well folks, this is a ton of info to process. aaaa_cccc, sorry I never got around to getting my full reply typed up. Short version is, I'd rather spend more on the one that will spend the most time on my hip and in my hand, knowing that I can upgrade my chopper when funds are more freely available.

I'm waffling at this point between going for a small EDC blade at all or just getting a TGLB and keeping my folder (which I love) for that task. I do love the looks of the TGLB, and it has an almost 8" blade and I would assume a blade forward balance due to the lightened handle. It looks like it would make an excellent all around blade, as I believe was mentioned upthread.

So, as you can all see, after months of weighing options, I'm no further along than when I started. Just putting this out there has already helped convince me to go three different directions in 24 hours ;) What I'm realizing is that it all comes down to preference (As aaaa_cccc helped me to see whilst writing a list of attributes and uses.) and at this point I think I'm just going to have to join the fray of rotational owners in order to find out which blades I want for life and which ones I just want to hold for a week or two. =D

sar 3 is my favorite small blade. and its hard to beat a fbm for a large chopper.... unless you have a ttkz

I can definitely understand that, I pretty much assumed that's what you were thinking. When funds are limited, I'd recommend looking at knives with superior price/performance ratio. You couldn't really say that the AMS is three times better/stronger compared to the 311. Therefore, the Scrap Yard's have superior price/performance ratio compared to Busse or even Swamp Rat.

The ONLY case where this would change IMO, was if it was absolutely a life or death situation if your knife failed. Then I'd say go straight for the Busse's, but otherwise you'd still be hard pressed to grossly damage a 311 or Rodent Solution.

Something along those lines makes much sense to me, when paired up with a folder or multitool. Most folks consider 7-8" knives the best all rounders, but I'm of the school of thought that lightweight 9-10" blades make more sense for this role. I'd recommend either the Scrap Yard 911, Basic 9 (somewhat rare), Basic 10 LE (choilless) or even the Basic 11 to be paired up with the folder.

Also, the TGLB is not really forward balanced at all. It balances right at the choil with micarta handles, slightly less more handle heavy with G-10. It would have a nice forward balance if it weren't for the fact that the blade is hollow ground with a fuller.

Ultimately, you can only tell so much from what you read/see here. You will have to do some experimenting to figure out just what will fit your needs best, as everybody's needs are different. You can also visit show's like Blade or Knob Creek to handle the knives which might help with your debating. Just remember, no regrets!..... ;)

I love my CABS, but the narrower handle on the AMS wins for edc....as much as it pains me to say it.
I wish the AMS didn't have a choil though.

I understand your reasoning behind a higher cost EDC / cheap chopper, but I would reverse the steels as well and put INFI into a chopper and EDC some Kin.

Or if cost is a bigger factor, you could EDC a Swamprat Elmax 340, and hunt down a 1311 / 911 etc.

Ooh man, a CAMS would be awesome! With a higher Rockwell like the BAD it would be even better. Now we're talking about MY ideal edc, the Choilless Boney Anniversary Mean Street!

Another vote for Active Duty or Boney Active Duty (BAD) for small.

1311, 1111, or Basic 11 for large.

I haven't handled the AMS, but between the AD, Meaner, and GW the Meaner gets my vote hands-down. It just sits perfectly in the hand with, for me at least, the optimal length for an EDC fixed blade.

My default trail knife is a Bushwhacker Mistress. My Scrapyard Dogfather is a close second, but INFI holds a better edge than S-7.

I intended to pair the BM with a Combat Grade Meaner Streets. Until I used one to cut a feather stick.

My default belt knife is a Randall Pathfinder.

Sorry Garth. Sorry Torn. I’ve never had a bigger disappointment from Busse.

It’s not because the MS is thick. Both knives are of 3/16” stock. It’s about edge geometry.

Maybe Jerry fixed things for the AMS.

:thumbup:BAD to the Bone!:D

Boney Active Duty and Badass sheath from Dwayne, and my trusty ol j frame:)
