Best all-around sheath for RMD

Say anyone have any suggestion what would be the best for 8 day
canoe trip with a RMD?

Thanks, I am new to the sheath knife world

I would imagine that you would probably want it attached to your gear bag so the molle setup that i posted earlier would be a great choice. But if you want to carry it on your person you should go with a Tek lock.

Check out Steenut and Azwelke if you want an excellent kydex sheath.

My personal preference - kydex or leather thigh-rig. This keeps the knife on person and comfortably out of the way when donning/dropping canoe or pack, sitting/standing/crouching/laying - the best set-up I've found, and it puts the handle right at your finger-tips.

My RMD rides in a short SpecOps Combat Master - I use paracord to sling the belt-loop lower on my hip, a leg-tie above my knee, and a thigh-strap w/ rubber traction to hold the sheath in place at my side.

Note: when wearing shorts, the knife is on my pack belt or should-strap instead of on my person.

Well, I ended up getting the Kydex and Tek Lok set up. I think it will prove to be very versatile. I also found out he's going to be hiking the Pacific Crest Trail after graduation. He should get plenty of use out of the RMD!

So I got a RMD to give to my nephew for his college graduation. I want to include a sheath as well, but I don't want to spend too much money. He's only my nephew for god's sake. :) He's a big time backpacker/hiker....what do you think would be the best set up for him? Thanks for the input!!!

This is the same setup I have, but I'm struggling to find a comfortable way to carry the RMD. Anyone have any tips on comfortable and unobtrusive carry with this combo?

Thanks

You might try a horizontal carry along your belt or attach it to your backpack vertically on one of the front straps.

Chuddy Bear makes a great leather sheath, quite a few options to choose from. This one is a high ride that can also be carried horizontal. Took these pictures when it was new.

I just got my RMDx LE and am having Al Welke build me a pancake kydex sheath for it, I also dislike tec/locs and he is bending me a belt loop from kydex that can be mounted to either side of the sheath. Should be much less bulky.

Sounds like a good option, make sure to post pics when you get it.

That Chuddy Bear sheath is gorgeous!

I carry my RMD in a taco kydex sheath with a large teklok just like you ended up with. So, I carry mine vertically on my left shoulder strap (I am right handed) and find this both very comfortable and out of the way, as well as easy to access. Just rotate the teclok so the hinge is in line with the spine of the RMD and then put it on the strap just below the padding (my bag is a Gregory Z-30), it flops around when the pack is off but rides great with the pack on.
Give that a try!

I got the Al Welke Kydex sheath's in the mail yesterday one for my RMDxLE and one for my little Izula. Great workmanship and fit and I love the belt loop that he made for me, much thinner and can be mounted to either side of the sheath.
I mailed a check to him last monday, even with that delay I had the sheath's in 9 day's:D

You do realize that you should have a Swamp Warden in this picture instead of the Izula. :) Nice looking sheaths; I really like his work.

That's a really good looking sheath too, and I like the belt loop. I have one of his sheaths for a Scrapper 5 and it is really good in fit and retention.
