Hey fellas, hows everyone? I know there is a plethora of knowledge in this section of Blade Forums, and I wanted to ask the Hogs what other American made fixed blades tickle their fancy? Of course, Busse, Swamp Rat, and Scrap Yard, but what other manufacturers or makers are producing quality fixed blades that can be put to the test? I was thinking Horton, Ranger, and Caldwell, but WHAT ELSE? If you are taking the time to read this, please put in your 2cents!

I am a fan of Randall Made Knives. In fact, this Battlefield Stag (aka, Non-Catalog "Combat Companion" with a practical Single Hilt and a Stag handle that would make my dad simultaneously proud and jealous) arrived today:

The only other maker that interests me is Horton, just because he makes 1/2 inch thick knives! I'd pick one up, but buying one is more confusing than buying a Busse and have no idea how to pick up one of his beasts.

RAT Cutlery makes great knives that just happen to be affordable. Not custom but they can hold their own. I have a Scrap yard scrapper 5 that I love but the fit and finish is far from RAT Cutlery's. In particular, the scrapper's grind is uneven, the blade has the depression on one side, the lanyard rivet is not perfect. Both RAT knives I've purchased are flawless and come with excellent sheaths.

i like busse first, then rat, horton, and some cold steel.[yes, cold steel]and im also confused about how to order a horton??and there is nothing wrong with a good old fashioned buck knife.

I agree about all of the ones you mentioned snwbrdr202, and I would for sure mention Tom Krein and his K9 Dingo.

Other than Busse, my favorite USA made fixed blades are from Fehrman, RAT Cutlery and BRKT - here are my sub 4" favorites:

Top-bottom: Fehrman Peace Maker, RAT Cutlery RC-3mil & Bark River Canadian Special.

I think Fehrman is a very overlooked brand - the ergos and fit/finish on them are just insane.

ooooopsss,i mentioned cold steel.they are made in japan and tiawan now.so i will add bark river.i have a bravo 1 that is pretty nice.

Of the ones I own, these are my favorites
Bob Dozier
Charles May
David Mosier
Sean O'Hare
Randall
D'Holder

i like to purchase custom made knives from good quality knife makers, such as mike norris, ron silver--nc maker, brian goode--nc maker, dan grubaugh, charlie haines, all of them are top-notch makers.

also collect randalls, they make a superb knife and it comes from the old school of knife making.

the above knives are excellent products, but of course i am partial to the randall that ken posted...

i am presently trying to get one of my grandfather's pocket knives that he carried in the world war I era and a fixed blade that my great-grandfather made in his blacksmith shop in south carolina---now that will be special!!!

Hossom, Simonich, Rinaldi, Randall, Jerry Lairson. There are many makers I really like.

But 90% of what I buy are Busses
