Best Anvil Value Today?

Ended up with the one I needed, not the one I lusted over.
It was my bad, I did not type in my email addie correctly and Charles fills orders QUICK! ;)
It’s a good thing too, after fetching this thing from the post office and setting it on it’s temporary “stump”, I thought I’d need to go to hospital as my wires holding my chest together let me know they did not like that activity. The Graham would have done me in.
After I sold “old swayback”, I was using a 6” diameter by 5” high 4140 cylinder to good effect, just lacked a hardy or Pritchel. Heck, ole swayback only had a 3”x4” surface area I could use so The Atlas ‘s 4”x8” surface will be very sufficient for my needs, and is of a weight I can realistically handle right now.
I need to modify my stand to incorporate the 6” cylinder and an 18” RR track to add to the mass (not that it needs it!). Pics in a couple days.

For what a new anvil costs, I think the best value is to find an older used anvil in good shape. I just bought a 386 pound hand forged south German style anvil for way less than $3 a pound.

That’s a big anvil, would love to see pics!

I found it to be quite the opposite in my area. People were asking anywhere from five to $10 a pound for old used Anvils. I bought a Ridgid Peddinghaus And sold my old Fisher and Hay Budden. The Ridgid Peddinghaus is much more efficient than my older ones were.

Around here people want crazy amounts of money for anvils.

It’s a start. Need to pick up lumber n lags soon.

Please let us know how the hardness is. I have one of the earlier versions, and it is WAY too soft. My normal forging hammers have left so many dings in it, it now mars my work while forging.

To be clear: this is hands down the best value per pound for a real anvil that can be found. I think the design is fantastic; and it is plenty heavy––with the mass all centered under the face--for everything I do. But the softness (on mine) is a big problem.

Yeah...I'd have fun with that one! (Except when moving it...)

Wonderful to hear. Would you mind leaving a review on Amazon? Apparently, I don't harangue people enough so I have very few published reviews on there.
