Right now a have a timberline assisted opening knife and I'm not to pleased with it, the spring broke within a month and have not found a replacement yet. I was wondering what everyones opinion would be about the best knife that is an assisted opener. Looking forward to your responses.

Kershaw Shallot is an awesome knife, The Leek is the good old standard, the shallot has surpassed it for me. paul

1+ on Kersshaw's AO's!! I am personally quite fond on the Mini Cyclone, with ZDP-189 blade and titanium handles. GREAT knife!!

I'm a a big fan of Kershaw and their CS is outstanding, as offsetlover stated. And, I have to agree with TKC that the ZDP/Ti mini cyclone is outstanding (they're becoming scarce, however).

Can anyone compare BM's AO compared to KAI?

Hockey, I'm generally not a fan of anything AO - that being said, the Kershaw Leek has worked better than fine for me for the last month or so - like many people on the forum, I'd recommend it.

if i had to compare, i would say KAI blows BM away. fit and finish is as good if not better, speed-safe has more authority than the Nitrous system, and the AO benchmades i have used or played with just feel wrong. granted thats my personal preferance, but at the same time it is a comparison.

Hockey,
Kershaw Cyclone is quick for a big knife. Kershaw Blur feels faster than anything I have found.

S.C. I have a Nitrous Stryker and although the Blur feels just a little quicker both are fast and both do EDC duty.

I'm sure its safe to say the Kershaw/ZT is the 'go to' answer for the original question. Mike and offset, thanks for the quick feedback; I'll stick with KAI for AO, and BM for their axis lock.

Kershaw like so many people have mentioned and SOG too. There's also Benchmade and Zero Tolerance which are really good, but they might be over your budget

I know it is not specifically an AO, but until the handle twisted and broke prying open a tool chest, my Voyager X2 was the fastest opening knife I had ever seen. I had a Blur, Leek, Hissatsu, Triumph, and Bump, but nothing compared even remotely. That 6" blade had so much weight you only needed to flick your wrist after a light oiling and WHACK! I loved that thing.

Check out the new Shallot. It has an awesome speed-safe. Also an ambidextrous flipper. Great Knife ! !

I handled the Shallot in my local knife store one day....... The next day I went back and bought it. Couldn't resist it !

+1 for mini cyclone or leek.

The leek is nice, but the SS handles are a bit slippery and the blade does seem like it will take any abuse (even on the reverse tanto models.

The mini cyclone rocks.

Well, if you discount the fact that it has no spring assist, I'd have to say the waved Endura/Delica, and the like.

I mean, those things are opening even *before* they are out of your pocket...

wow thanks for all the great suggestion I'm going to have to look into all of them. the kershaw knives seem to be very popular without out very many bad reviews so theres a good chance ill be getting at least a kershaw. thanks for all the help.
