I have 140 dollars to spend on a folder. I prefer big (4">) lockback or axis knives... Anybody have any suggestions? BTW my last purchase was the Spyderco Manix.

I was thinking about just holding on to the money and keep adding on until I had enough for a sebenza (NGK has a stars and strips version that I would like to add). Are they worth the money or are they overpriced?

I just ordered the new Kershaw titanium/ZDP189 Leek for that exact price :)

Lockback: anything from Spyderco

Axis: Benchmade 710 154CM

Don't know how you feel about non-tactical style knives but the Queen Mountain Man knife is an extremely well built large (8 1/2" OAL) lockback folder. (Sambar Stag w/D-2 pictured below)

Scratch my last comment that is a great idea. Need to read everything before i post.

Sebenzas are one of the greatest folders out there.

I think they are definatley worth the money to me. To you hopefully they are. I think they are excellent. There are just so many great things about them.

GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!

The BM 710 seems to fit your requirements just about perfectly.
And it is a great knife.

Spydie Chinook? Already mentioned I see...
Also sounds like something you'd like. Big. Lockback. Great.

Interesting, once you move above the $140 or so range you don't see a lot of lockbacks. Instead you get a lot of linerlocks and framelocks.
Ernie Emerson's knives, for example. But they are great knives.

You could look at the Hossom Retribution, BTW. Linerlock though.

And with the Benchmade, Spyderco, Emerson and Ontario you're looking at 3-4 different bladesteels.
If you like D2, there's the 710. I happen to really like D2. 154CM? Emerson. Etc.

Anyway, as you suggest, you can save up and move into Sebenza range, and a bit more you can go custom. Maybe by the time you're ready Jerry Busse will even have released his folder.

But I wouldn't bet the house on that...;)

when you hold a Sebenza you know where that money went

i don't know about the graphic ones though...

in the range you mentioned i think i'd look at the Ritter Griptilian, or the 710

the Ritter Grip might be a tad small though, it's a little smaller than a Large Sebenza

I just received my Buck Custom Shop 110 and it is excellent!

Nickle-silver bolsters, asian water-buffalo horn scales, BG-42 blade, with leather belt-pouch, all for $116.00 shipped.

In my opinion, it's one of the best deals around.

As you are in to BIG folders, I think you already have it well covered with the Manix. The BM610 Ruckus is another brute, with the Axis lock, slightly more tactically designed, yet still maintaining a functional blade shape.

I do like your thinking on saving a few more dollars and buying something in the next price bracket, but this might be the start of a serious and costly addiction. Happy shopping.

As several have mentioned before, the BM 710 is a great knife. The Skirmish and Rukus should also be considered.

You won't regret getting a BM 710. Mine is my second favorite production folder of all time.

I really liked the Manix but sold them because they weren't comfortable to carry in my right front pocket. The 710 carries much better.

Discontinued, but still around, Lershaw 1416, XXL Starkey Ridge. ATS-34 blade, Titanium liners, and G-10 scales

A lot of good advice here. I'd throw the BM 806D2 into the mix.

If you change your mind and consider framelocks, then you might consider the Bradley Alias I. It's made by Benchmade and resembles the Sebenza with it's S30V blade and Ti handles, but not the same quality of fit and finish. However, I'd say it's an extremely good bang for the buck.

I think all the knives mentioned are good choices. I have owned and carried knives for over 50 yrs now and I would have to agree that the Queen Mountain Man is a terrific knife. I have owned Queens and Schatts for over 30 yrs and they still look great and continue to do the job on a daily basis for me. At the end of the day I touch them up with an old belt of mine and they will flick the hair right off of your arm. My choice is the Queen.

SOG's Tomcat 3 looks pretty cool. It does not have a pocket clip but one could probably be added without too much effort.
