Best bark river?

If you check out KF, Bark River will be producing a knife exclusively for that forum called the HCF (Hiking & Camping Forum knife, I think). Just go to the Hiking and Camping section and look at the sticky.

Hmm, seems like the fox river is the most popular. I am a bit aprehensive of the thin (width) blade but I do like stag. How thick is the blade stock? I am still kind of leaning towards the bravo-1, I'm a sucker for a wide blade. As for the Canadian special, I kind of like the look but it's a bit too short. Im kind of hesitant as it is to try a blade less than 5" (my personal favorite). Ill probably end up with both a fox river and a bravo-1, but I don't know which one too get first.

I've never handled the Fox River/North Star type handle, but it looks like it's a little chunky/angular. Seems it would be a little uncomfortable, is that not the case?

Not the case for me Spooky. I think my Foxriver is one of my more comfy knives.

I currently have 3 Aurora's, 2 Kephart's, 1 PSK and 1 Mikro Canadian. My favorites are the Aurora's. I'm planning on getting a couple of Bravo-1's. I find that all them have their own special qualities.

You can't just have one BRKT knife.

The best allrounder is probably the Canadian Special. It does everything I've tried pretty well.

It doesn't look as good as the Fox River and Northstar though. The handle is better than on the FR and NS though.

If you want more than 4" I'd go with the Aurora or the Montana Guide which both are a bit longer. The Montana guide has a thicker blade (0.215") than the Aurora (0.170") and would be better for hunting tasks.

Isnt the Montana guide exactly 4 inches? I was also looking at the gameskeeper II, but It might be a bit too big?

All the Bark River knives are awesome cutting tools, find the one that meets you’re needs and strikes your fancy and you will be happy.

When it come to handle material, don’t think you have to limit yourself to Micarta or G10. Mike Stewart’s no questions asked warrantee applies to all his knives; buy the handle that looks good to you and use it hard.

I prefer natural handle material, and have been known to abuse my knives, I have never had a problem with a Bark River handle, and if I happen to damage one I know they will repair it free of charge.

Buying and using a beautiful knife makes me happy. :D

The Beauty of Bark River is that they make great knives in a wide variety of awesome handle material; get the knife that calls to you and use it like you stole it.

Well, that’s what I do. ;);)

Ill be buying my bark river from knifesupply, they have the best prices I could find. I can get almost any handle material they have for under $150. I use my knives heavily so I prfer a more pronounced guard.

You might want to call the Knife Supply folk up, and make sure they actually have the knife you want. There are a number of internet knife places that list BRKT knives that only have a couple in stock - they just list what their distributer lists. The distributer may or may not have them.

Good luck!

I agree - call first. I emailed them a month or so ago and their prices were current and their inventory was updated.

The BRavo-1 is an excellent knife. It all depends on what you want to do with the knife. It doesn;t matter which one you order first, since you'll be ordering another one soon ((( :D )))

Here's my current harvest: (Bravo-1 is topmost in both photos)

sorry, I didn't read the whole thread, so sorry if it's been said already...

don't mike and reid have a fued over which is the best, the fox river or the northstar???

Does BRKT make any left-handed sheaths? If not, where's my best bet to look?

If you talk to the vendor Knivesshipfree.com or DLT.Com they will be able to hook you up with a left handed sheath. You might have to call the bard river shop first but it can be arranged at no extra cost

Thanks for the heads up! I just sent Knifshepfree an e-mail, DLT e-mail bounced so I'll give them a call to let them know their posted address is broken if nothing else.
