I'm trying to figure out which belts to buy.

I've heard good things about blaze and scotchbrite/nonwoven belts.

How are 3m's ceramics?

What set of belts would you suggest for a new guy to start out with?

I do all rough profiling and heavy grinding including bevels with 60 grit Blaze belts. They last a good long time and cut very well. Then I swith to the 3M Trizact CF "gator" belts in A100 (180 grit) and A30 (600 grit). You may want to add a grit between the 180 and 600 to speed things up.

I use 60gr and 120gr Blaze, then 240gr,400gr and 800gr 3M gator. This has given the "best bang for the buck" for me over the last few years.

I have a pile of new belts I could start a store lmao. But seriously Istart shapeing and profileing with a 36 grit blaze orange . that takes about 1 min or less seriously and then move to 60 grit do my ruff grinds then 120 blaze orange . Then use semi ceramic zirconia belt klingspore up to 400 then switch back to a structured abrasive belt to finish and go 320 500 and finish with 1200 and they work killer I barely buff now.

I really hate Blaze belts, I have a huge rack of those on my shop wall and cant seem to ever get rid of them. I use them, abuse them and then hang them up again. When I grap the damn thing again it still cuts. How do you get these out of your shop.

I use the new belts for bevels, flats and finishing but after that I just grind these to death and they never seem to quit. The worn do generate heat so I dont use them after HT.

I got a 36 for handle shaping and it works great but I use 60, 80, 120 I wish they made finer belts.
