i recomment tru grit...they have a web site, the link is on my links page at my website. the best belts are expensive..but well worth it. it actually works out that they are the cheapest ones.
I've been using my first Norton Hogger for about a week. Flat ground 8 or 9 blades so far and it just keeps cutting. The Everyready Bunny of belts. I got it from Tru Grit.
I ditto Tom on both counts, John at tru-grit is a wonderful man and goes the extra mile for his customers. Buy Good belts, they end up costing you less!! John will advise you!
I like Norton belts as well. I have also used the 3M apex belts in the past and they are a little different. I have used them in 320 and 400 grit. Has anyone used these 3M belts very much? Comments?
I agree with Kit-I use the 977 belts for all rough grinding. For finishing, I still like the 3M Micron belts. For slack belt work, the 3M J Flex Aluminum Oxide belts. I get mine from Stephen Bader Co, in New York. 518-753-4457.
I ground 24 blades on one hermes Aluminum oxide belt on Sunday. This was a mixed run from 2 1/2" to 10" blades 1/16", 1/8" and 3/16" blade stock. This was just grinding bevels, not profiling.
Grinding is a funny thing. Each of us do it in a different way and sometimes at a different speed. I grind slow (so my mind can keep up with it) and I know I'm not getting the best out of the 3M 977s, they work best at high speed and lotsa pressure.
Find the series of belts that work best for you. Try em all and takes notes.
