Best Benchmade Edc With Assisted Opening

Thanks for all your input! I really like the mini barrage and the mini griptillian a lot. Now I have to make a new decision.

if you go mini griptilian go Ritter griptilian... better bladeshape and worth the xtra cash... im actually getting rid of mine soon lol i have too many knives

You could definitely get a good axis assist under $100 I know I can get a brand new mini Barrage for around $85 and full size around $95.

Sir, you didn't read my whole post. I didn't say you couldn't get one. I said you need to go used for more options and add money for more options. I don't think I could be any clearer.....but if I am still not clear enough on what I said...ill gladly try again.

Just got the Emissary. Light weight, on the small side (fits my hand well though) which is great to carry in jeans, trousers, shorts, whatever. Smooth, quick open. A little more expensive than your looking for but I'm really enjoying it!

Don't know about the mini barrage, but the mini grip is small...way small. I opened mine and it was on the forum like 3 hours later. I do love my full sized ritter grip though...

i agree the mini ritter is small compared to say a paramilitary 2 etc... but i thought a full sized one was a touch too big for edc (at least in an urban environment) still both are awesome knives and better than the reg grips

I really can't think of other Axis assisted knives that would add more options. Other than being able to buy more knives.

I have a full sized Barrage. The assisted opening on it is excellent and it has a useful drop point blade. Those are the pluses, the minus is the very plasticky overly thick handle. The handle makes it less appealing to hold and carry.

I just got a Nitrous Stryker (tanto blade) and the form factor is better, haven't used it much yet.

My Barrage experience is with the new this year full size 581, an Al/G10 handled & M390 bladed version that is well above your price limit. It is one of two new-2011 BM's that got my attention (... and moola!). I wasn't as fond of the assisted feature (Odd considering I have an auto!) - or the Valox handle - like my 551 Grip - my oldest - and least-liked - BM. The full size 580 is $140 MSRP - the mini 585 is $130 MSRP - and 154CM is a great blade steel. You can't beat the AXIS lock - I have a bunch of them, including that old 551 - and never have had a problem. Others can answer as to the mini's assist, but the 581's is a bit 'ambitious' - the contoured G10 helps you keep it secured during deployment - not sure about the Valox handled mini. If it isn't 'too ambitious', and you can get it shipped for <$100, it'd be a deal!

Of course, for most of another C-note, you can have a myriad of choices - including that new 581. Any of the BM's will likely make you smile...

I like smallness in an edc though and i think the griptilian is the perfect size. Its also lighter than the mini barrage. Although it doesnt have assisted opening like the mini barrage it costs a lot less. Thats why Im going with the mini griptilian.

griptilian (in any style) is a great knife.. people may whine about "plasticy' feeling handles but noryl gtx (handle material) is nearly indestructible.. combine that with an axis lock and you pretty much have a perfect knife..

I just got a paramilitary 2 and i think it just bumped my Ritter mini griptilian from my EDC

I know its over your $100 price range, but I picked up the 470 Emissary for $120, well worth the extra $20. It is not my favorite EDC beating out my 940 Osborne.

The para2 is awesome and is my number 1 carry with a full sized Ritter Grip being #2 (but #1 in the woods).

I look forward to seeing how the Stryker compares.

Ahh...good you figured it out. More models=more options of what one can buy. plus options of blade lengths, handle designs and scales used, and on and on and on.

Benchmade hk nitrous blitz is such a great edc at only 2.7 oz and 154cm with titanium liners and assisted opening as well . This is the complete package imho

Bought my BM mini barrage 585S for $72 at a Bi-Mart in Portland, OR after they came out. It is my most used knife. If you can, get a couple of these knives into your hands and get a feel for them before you make a decision. I bought the mini barrage over the griptilian, nitrous, presidio (non-assist, just similar style), etc. based primarily on how it felt in my hand in use. I love the thing. It's also one of the safest designs out there.
