Do any of you have suggestions for what the best Benchmade Knife is? I already have a Spyderco and a ZeroTolerance/Kershaw, so I'm looking for a Benchmade. I'm hoping to get one that's under $200. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would say there are several that could be put in the best category. Depends on the type you want. personally i would say: 940 series, griptilian series, bugout, and crooked river and the barrage series

Welcome to the forums!

How much do you want it to weigh?
For EDC or outdoors or?
How long of a blade?
Any kind of steel preference?

My favs are the Adamas 375 and Grip/Mini Grip with 20CV. I could never take a liking to the 940 series.

I'm not really one that cares about weight too much, I don't really mind it either way. I just plan on using it for EDC, but I might take it out camping sometime, that's rather doubtful though. I usually like blades above 3 inches. Not too much of a steel preference, the only really decent steel knives I have are all in S30V, haha.

Like scooter, i did not take to the 940. initially i thought it looked weird. But a salesman highly recommended, saying he had his green 940 for over 5 years. so i took his word and bought the 940-1. the rest is history. I list it as my favorite knife, not for looks, but for its sheer useability. it just seems purpose built for whatever i am doing with it.

Sounds like a Griptillian to me.

Lots of great BMs to choose from. With your criteria, I say find one that looks good to you and go for it, making sure it has the blade length you require.

I also prefer the 940.

My favorite is definitely the long discontinued original AFCK. I got one off the exchange here a few months back for $185.

My fave is the 710 McHenry & Williams.

Benchmade 710, which is the first knife with the Axis lock. It is discontinued but you can get the knifeworks exclusive 710-1401, which has better blade steel (M390). Get one before it's long gone.

Benchmade 810-1401 is another one to look at.

Edit: SpySmaster beat me.

Make sure not to buy sight unseen. Buy in the store to check fit and finish. Or buy from online vendors that will check the knife before shipping for quality.

Benchmade has very bad quality control.

Dlt trading have a carbon fiber large griptillian model I like. A buddy has one.
And I have a 940-1 that I enjoy.

They are not slicers by any means tho. The bugout is a nice slicer. My buddy has one too and got aftermarket cf scales which are awesome on it.

But honestly best is a weird term best at what?

What do you plan to cut and do with it? Blade profile could dictate what model you would need. And they have a few different steel options. Even a online configurator for some models.

Benchmade's 725 Kodiak in my estimation was the best they offered for an outdoor knife -

.

I really wish they'd bring back some of the very early designs on a limited basis.

Fixed blade or folder....

I second scooters recommendation. The grip or mini grip with the opening hole. That is the knife that currently holds the highest place on my wishlist. the 20cv/g10 version
