Best Benchmade Knife

There's no real "Best Benchmade"... there's only the "Best Benchmade For You" :D

Sift through the choices, pick the one that fits your needs and strikes your fancy, and enjoy!

I don't think that most people are commenting on Benchmade's qc are doing it to diss the company. Rather they just want to warn potential customers. If BM has a problem with qc to the point it becomes an internet meme then that means the meme speaks true enough to be widely accepted across the internet.

I am an Emerson fan and hear all the time about their qc issues. I understand that they must be having qc issues if enough people are mentioning them. It's not the case that those people complaining about qc issues have a hate on for the company. Rather often they want to love the company. They often bought a knife from said company that had qc issues, and they wish it didn't because they want to love the knife.

I know BM can do better. I don't want them to be a company people are scared to buy from sight unseen. I don't want to send my knife in the day I get it.

For me.... 551-1

I've luster over/handled a Crooked River many times. I REALLY want one but am waiting till next yr to see what the Mini Crooked River is. I don't need a 4" blade for edc.

I can't say I've been unhappy with any of my Benchmades: 710 (D2), Mini-Rukus (S30V), Grippies (D2, CM154 -- though I like this steel the least). Hard to go wrong with the Axis Lock.

Do any of you have suggestions for what the best Benchmade Knife is? I already have a Spyderco and a ZeroTolerance/Kershaw, so I'm looking for a Benchmade. I'm hoping to get one that's under $200. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

710 and 940 seem to be very popular. My favorites are the discontinued 913 Stryker and 730 Ares, but the new 908 Stryker is very similar.

I came to Bladeforums looking for "The best Benchmade." I ended up scrimping and saving for a Small Sebenza.
The truth is that for most people who are really into knives, Benchmade is known as a company who makes knives for the person who wants the best from Cabelas or REI. Like any hobby involving products, once you delve into the realm of forums things get slippery. You realize that Benchmade makes more designs than you ever thought. Instead of being limited to 12 knife manufacturers you realize they are almost endless. If I were gonna buy a $200 knife for myself it would be the Spyderco Fluted CF Native 5. If I were hellbent on a Benchmade I would give serious consideration to the Grey/Blue G10 20CV Lg. Griptilian.

Another vote for the 940 series. That axis lock and the action are just so darn smooth.

I love my Griptilian and Mini Grip in 20CV and M4. Both are awesome, and awesome in both steels!

Mini Grip 556-1 is my favourite. I have small/medium hands. If you have big hands the 551-1 is better.

Enjoy the hunt. the shopping and the knife.

710 or a griptilian. Don't have a 710 anymore- because I had a momentary lapse of reason, and I have yet to replace it. The grip I have has been beat to hell- but still feels like it did the day I bought it, but looks like a band of drunken monkeys used it to dig into every termite mound in Tanzania. It needs to go back to BM for a new blade...

Best bet is to find a dealer close by, handle every one in your price range, and enjoy the afternoon fondling BM's and bothering the guy (or girl) behind the counter.
