What lube/anti-corrosion coating for knives, axes and machetes for outdoor
usage? Looking for something GOOD for my SHTF/Survival goodies...

TIA,

AC

On my machetes I have used rattle can spray paint with good effects. As for good knives I use mineral oil.

define the storage conditions?

long term, no wear, not gonna be used unless it's needed? turtle wax.

occasional use, but int he sheath and available- linseed oil the sheath interior and I have used Barricade, Remoil, mineral oil, and 20wt 3in1 all successfully

daily use? mineral oil or whatever- I've had carbon blades i just sprayed with WD40 on worksites daily and never had an issue. But that wasn't food prep knives.

mineral oil is used on chopping boards. (I buy it as block oil just to be sure)

If possible I always wash a knife before food/game use anyhow. even just a washcloth and coffee in the thermos on occasion. (it was pretty cold that day)

mineral oil +1

i use it on everything from food prep knives to katanas to straight razors - good stuff, doesn't spoil, safe to ingest, available at any drugstore

Mineral oil + infinity, lots of uses.

Most often found near the laxatives.
However, you'd have to take a big ol' swig of it though to make ya crap like a goose. :D

Something that stays on better than mineral oil is a 50/50 mix of beeswax and petroleum jelly. Melt together, stir, pour into an empty 35mm film-can, let harden.
This makes a non-toxic, edible grease, about the consistency of shoe polish.

Wipe on with a cloth, q-tip, your finger, whatever.

I've used this for the last 25 years. :)

Mineral oil... A multi-use item... Protects leather, hc steel, and acts as a laxative...

Just don't lick the sharp edge....

Camelia oil also works well as a preservative (I haven't tested it's qualities as a laxative, yet....)

BTT. What about coatings that won't kill you if you use the knife for food prep???
I've used sesame oil for years. Works fine on carbon or stainless, smells nice, and doesn't go rancid on you.

I wound up using it to oil a squeaky hinge pin on a door, too, because it smelled better than anything else.

Coupla bucks at your grocery store. And you can cook with it pretty easily, too.
